In S’s case, a tiny clip in the local free newspaper–ignored by the daily city paper–and a mention of the honor at graduation.

On the other hand, a friend of mine who lived in Wisconsin when her S graduated from HS told me that the NMFs in that state were invited to a special dinner, possibly with the governor. They may do something for PS candidates/semi/finalists. In my area, NMFs get the same tiny clip in the local free paper–ignored by the daily city paper–and the HS puts their names on a plaque every year. That’s it.

My son has decided to go through with the application. He knows there are a ton of talented kids out there, but he is hoping to win it so his teacher can be recognized.

Is anyone else on CC sending in the app? Online or mail in?

My son is leaning against completing the application. He’s rather sick of writing extra essays and, with 150+ students in our state vying for 2-3 slots, the risk/reward ratio is pretty weak. I suppose it might be different if he was interested in political science.

My daughter’s bf is a candidate and I asked him if he was going to apply. He didn’t seem too thrilled at the thought of more essays, but said he probably would since it would be pretty cool to go to DC and meet the prez. Our state is probably not as competitive as some and I think he has a good shot at getting it.

I’m a candidate–first one from my very very small school; my counselor had never heard of Presidential Scholars and they just sent the recommender’s login codes today after several phone calls. I’m planning on completing it. Although I have a very tiny chance, it would be great to get my school out there with someone who even makes it past this stage.

I’m also a federal employee. Does anyone know if this makes me ineligible/gives me a leg up? (I’m sincerely hoping for the latter :)
