Just out of curiousity, any Presidential scholars willing to share stats?

I know that the criteria for the Maximus Competition has these new cutoffs: ACT 32 and SAT of 1420 (CR & M) as well as being in the top 3% for rank. Are most Prez scholars NMFs, URMs, out-of-staters, math/sci. kids, uber-test-takers (i.e., ACT 35+, SAT 2300+), etc. . . . is there a typical profile for a Presidential scholar? Or, are they kids who happened to write a couple of great essays in one sitting?

The invitation to the Maximus competition is based on stats, but the Presidential scholarships are awarded based on mostly the essay quality, and also a little bit of impressive stats.

ambidextrous, Your math score reminds me of my daughter. CR 800, W 750, M 660. She loves reading and writing SO MUCH MORE than math. I'm hoping it will help with the Maximus essays.

"Freshmen compete for Maximus scholarship
By: Heather Taylor

This week, around 1,500 incoming freshmen will come to Ohio State for the opportunity to win their share of almost $15 million dollars.

The University Scholar Maximus Competition, lasting from Feb. 17- Feb. 25, will award 120 merit scholarships in 10 full-ride scholarships, 30 full-tuition scholarships and 80 half-tuition scholarships. Competitors have a 1-in-12 chance of receiving a scholarship."

Just to echo MaryTN, I've been very impressed with the entire exploration process at OSU. We visited a number of schools, all more expensive and more "exclusive" than OSU, but none of them handled the process as well as OSU did. In terms of visit hospitality, approachability, communication and follow-up, OSU did a far better job than the others. I found that a pleasant surprise given their size. I guess I just expected them to be more impersonal. Go figure. :)

D has inherited her father's procrastination habit (disease?).

The Presidential application has to be postmarked by February 1st -- and I may pull my hair out before then. I'll be the bald mom at Maximus next weekend. Come by and say Hello.

If I read this right, there are only 10 full-ride scholarships per year for the whole entire incoming freshmen per year. This is very difficult and competitive.

Yes, there are only 10 full rides and they are for instate tuition level. OOS have the Buckeye Plus program which covers $6600 of the OOS surcharge.

1200 Honors Program > 800 Maximus participants > 25-30 finalists > 10 Presidential Scholars
