Presidential Scholarship c/o 2015 decisions

I didn't get it. I received an email about it today! Post if you got it or not and if you did post your resume/stats. Congrats to who did receive it!!

Unfortunately no. Congrats to those who did receive the scholarship.

I got it. Message me if you want stats. I’d rather not post it online. But I’m very pleased. I don’t have any leadership positions or anything and just a 2100. But basically, I sparkled, made jokes about UGA, talked about my passions, and smiled a lot (I have DIMPLES!)

got my 1st rejection letter today :/

iwantivies, you got email or phone call??

phone call

i didn’t get it :frowning: i don’t know what they could possibly want! i have like 3,000+ cs hours and 2190 SAT…whatever.

BUT, CONGRATS iwantivies! psp is an amazing program with a STIPEND, you must be very proud! are you considering tech?

I got it. At first I was not home to accept the phone so my regional interviewer emailed me to call her and then came the good news. My scores were okay and leadership positions were decent, but it was probably my passion more so in the interview than any other factors. I honestly didn’t think that I would get it because I was drilled heavily. But, congrats to those who got PSP and to those who did not because GT is a great school!

My daughter was wait listed (one of 45 offered a spot on the wait list per her e-mail). We were frankly a little disappointed she didn’t get it. 2320 SAT (taken only as a 10th grader). 5’s on every AP test. She lettered in 4 varsity sports (x-country, bball, soccer and lacrosse). She was a 4 yr member of the marching band. National Merit Finalist (and soon to be National Merit Scholar I’m pretty sure - got a 239 on the PSAT). She was accepted to the prestigious Governor’s School for Spanish here in Virginia. She’s President of her local National Honor Society chapter and coordinates numerous charity fundraisers. She got to study in Singapore for a few weeks with a few select members of her Academy of Science classmates.

Her mother and I are both GT grads, too! I think the only way GT was going to be able to get her was to offer the full scholarship since she’s already been accepted to MIT, has made the finals of the full ride UVA scholarship (the Jefferson scholarship) and we believe she’ll end up getting in to both Harvard and Princeton in April. So, I’m a little disappointed in my alma matter! Very curious…if not her…who?

If I read this from another parent my only conclusion would be “maybe she bombed the interview…no personality”. But I think she’s incredibly engaging (parental bias) with a completely awesome sense of humor. Oh well… like I said, it was probably going to be a stretch for GT to get her but we were still bummed.

Congrats to all those that did get in. You can’t go wrong with GT. And THWG!

Just a quick follow-up. A few of the folks that received the scholarship were nice enough to share a little more about themselves. All I can say is “wow”. GT is getting some truly remarkable incoming freshman. They were being far too modest in their posts. Some of these kids truly come across like the “cure cancer” kind of kids you only read about. It is truly remarkable what they have accomplished and I respect GT for the varying qualities it looks for in these Presidential Scholars.

I certainly feel a lot less disappointed that my daughter ended up on the wait list after having heard from some of you.

Best of luck to the incoming class.

Go Jackets!

igorick - Your daughter sounds like an amazing young woman, any college would be lucky to have her. My son was selected as a Presidential Scholar and has worked extremely hard, from grades to extracurriculars to volunteerism. At this point, I don’t know where he will ultimately decide to study, but just trust they will all end up where they are supposed to be.

I don’t envy the interviewers and the PSP organization for their duty to select the finalists! This is a terribly difficult job!
My son is a freshman-PS at GT, and I’ve met a number of his PS colleagues. I can only confirm what igorick said: truly impressive young people!

Originally, I felt that my son (skipped a grade, 2390 on the SAT, perfect scores on his SAT II tests, plenty of ec hours, leadership positions, sports, etc. etc) would have his spot as PSP basically ‘guaranteed’ - but then I met some of his peers and now I feel quite differently! This is an amazing group of young people, all very intelligent yet modest, and some with amazing accomplishments already! My son LOVES to have this group of people as friends!

igorick, if your daughter has already been accepted to MIT she’s in a very comfortable situation - congratulations! That you’re a little disappointed in your alma mater, I can understand (particularly financially this would have been attractive!), but at least she has already an ‘outstanding alternative’, and I’m convinced she’s going to be highly successful wherever she will end up going to college!

persinaprincess - I’m going to Tech! Yeaaaaa :)
