fromthesouth: that does sound a little unusual for your situation, given the rest of the stats I see here (as well as my son's stats, which are comparable, lots of ECs, and he received 24k/honors). How were your ECs? Did you call the admissions office to confirm?
I wonder if they made a mistake with you. It never hurts to double check. You could ask them about their honors criteria and maybe set your mind at rest.

ill call and ask. i had almost every EC my school offers, which isn't much. i also helped found the soccer team but it got cut due to funding (very small school)

Honors program, presidential scholarship.
2200 sat (800 crit, 760 math, 640 writing) 770 Math II, 760 Math I, 720 US History. National Merit Finalist Application pending. 10 APs in school by the time I'm done (so far that includes 3 5's and 2 4's). 11th % in a high school that by the numbers is in the top 20 high schools in the nation. Captain of my debate team, leadership in 2 other clubs, 2 prestigious internships, etc. I was a pretty strong candidate.

I didn't know that the honors program existed when I applied. So, from others accepted to the honors program, what is it like? I'm sure we've all heard more than our fair share of generic "our school is amazing" rants (and written as many to colleges in apps), but how is Tulane's honors program different?

I received a $24,000 a year scholarship.
GPA- 3.5 uw/3.89 w
SAT- 630 math, 700 reading, 740 writing
SAT II - 760 Literature, 590 French w Listening
Lots of EC's, international experience, leadership, etc

Keep in mind that if you have a 3.3 GPA after the first semester of your freshman year you'll automatically be accepted to the honors program

3.3? 3.45 is the retention GPA for freshmen and sophomores, and to override the Honors block on the registrar site requires a 3.5 (Dean's List) and I'm pretty sure it's only good for the semester after.

I received a $24,000/year scholarship & Honors too:

GPA: 3.6 UW/ 4-point-something W
ACT: 35
ECs: average/good

My S got $24,000/Honors Program today!

SAT:2070 (680 CR, 690 M, 700 WR 11 essay)
GPA: 3.5 UW, 3.8 W - Top 10%
ECs: average, good essay, probably very good counselor and teacher rec.

Man I really wish I was in the Honors program....

2250 SAT (800 W, 750 M, 700 V)
760 Spanish, 730 Literature, 710 Math II SAT IIS
34 ACT
3.6 GPA, ranked 82/728
lots of ECs with leadership
5 AP classes
good essay/recs.

$24k/honors college

Did you apply ED?

No, I applied (using the Common App, by the way) around January 1st for Regular Decision.

Aren't the only two options for Tulane EA and RD?

2210 SAT
33 ACT
4.0 UW / 4.4 W GPA
9/337
ECs were mainly sports and science stuff

Got 20k and no honors

I got the presidential scholarship & accepted into the honors program

3.75 Uw/4.05 W GPA
2300 SAT
Multiple leadership positions in extracurriculars

Good luck!!! I hope you get into the honors program

Panda wow...now I don't feel bad lol.

D did EA and got 24K/honors, waiting to hear about DHS.

800CR, 730M, 800W = 2330 SAT's
4.35 GPA(W) out of about a 4.5 possible. School doesn't do class rank but she would be in top 10 out of 250, maybe even top 5.
5 AP courses (all she could take at her school), 5's on both the exams she has taken so far. 740 & 780 on the SAT II's she has taken.
Decent EC's, nothing spectacular there. A few school clubs, tech crew for drama, trips to Dominican to help build a school, some local charity stuff. No sports.

To answer another question, Tulane's honors program is not as differentiated as an honors college would be (see Barrett College at Arizona State or Barksdale School at Ole Miss, for examples), but that is to be expected at a highly selective private school like Tulane. I have researched this quite a bit, and Tulane does a lot more for their honors program than most other schools, with special classes, seminars, and functions. Many schools say they have an honors program, and it often is little more than being able to register early and get the title of graduating with honors at the end if you do a project and/or thesis. I was impressed with what Tulane is offering in this regard.

fallenchemist: can you elaborate on some of the stuff you found out about the honors program? and where are you from in RI?
