Does anybody know the profile of the average Presidential scholarship winners? Like ACT/GPA/# of APs? I don’t think I’ll receive enough need-based aid to afford BU, so I’ll probably need merit aid.
My Qualifications:
GPA: 4.3
ACT: 34
APs: 10 ( World, APUSH, Lang, Seminar, German, Lit, Bio, Stats, Research, Psych)
In the AP Capstone program
ECs: Neuroscience research internship, conducted three psych/behavioral science related research studies, president/founder of my school’s UNICEF chapter, varsity swimming, Forensics (placed at state two years), lots of community service.
@Amber333 , I really like your research ECs. Good stuff! All I know is that the Presidential Scholarship is given to those in the top 5% of their applicant pool. You look like a fine candidate to me, but I really can’t offer hard facts other than what is on the website. My D has applied RD.
Did you apply for the Trustee Scholarship? Kilachand Honors College? Just curious. I dont know if that will make a difference for the Presidential. Good luck!
From BU’s site for Class of 2021. Keep in mind these are averages not cutoffs.
“Trustee Scholars are, on average, in the top 2 percent of their high school class, with 4.0 GPA and 1544 SAT (34 ACT) averages. Presidential Scholars average in the top 3 percent, with 3.9 GPA and 1531 SAT (34 ACT) averages. Students admitted to Kilachand Honors College also average in the top 3 percent of their class, with 3.9 GPA and 1515 SAT (33 ACT) averages.”
The graph on that web page is very interesting. Shows the deliberate and continued pressure on admission rates, now 25% and continuing to drop.
The lower acceptance rate was achieved by cutting the size of the freshman class from 4100 to 3400. Half the CGS students now start in January instead of September. BU has also increased transfer admissions from about 400 to 750 each year. Total undergraduate enrolment has stayed about the same.
Its great to hear that BU is attracting so many excellent students! My son has also applied and is still waiting for one of the scholarships. His stats: 33 ACT (34 superscored), 5.2 GPA/4.0 Scale, NHS President, 8A Varsity football state champ linebacker, 9 APs scoring 5’s on all of them. What are your thoughts? We would welcome any input as we believe they notify mid-March.
