Presidential Scholarship Thread!

Just got the email! Named a finalist. I can’t believe it - I really thought I screwed up the interview.

Finalist as well!

Wow! CC is really made up of a talented group of people. I am not moving on, sadly.

Are you guys from Georgia or out of state?

@silverdrop OOS, from Ohio

@silverdrop OOS as well.

I wish they had been more upfront about the fact that half the finalists come from instate. In the interview I tended to focus on my non-STEM activities – I mean, they’re usually pretty self-explanatory-- I don’t know if that was a poor decision or not.

I got rejected from Sanford EA, too. I was hoping it was an anomaly, but I guess I’m not qualified to be a top candidate.

Sincerely,

A 4.0 Unweighted GPA, 2360 SAT I, 800 Physics SAT II, and 790 Math II student, National Merit Scholar Finalist, Sunshine State Scholar, National AP Scholar (All 5s save an unfortunate 4 on Lang), National Physics Olympiad Honorable Mention Semifinalist, 1st place State Science Olympiad Technical Problem Solving, 2nd place Circuits and Food Science winner, Mu Alpha Theta President, MATHCOUNTS head coach, volunteer church and hospital pianist, pit orchestra cellist (I’ve played for 9 years, cello for 4), All-County Academic Team member (captain for district winning team), 1st place regional ethics team and programming competitons winner, and collaborator on an experiment carried out on the International Space Station, who knows how to talk to people, has won awards for both his writing and oral presentations, and realizes this post is convoluted.

我也学习中文和拉丁文(就不问我说拉丁文哈哈),真努力工作。我不知道我的错误,但我祝你们走运。

Cal2u2 – I know it can be disconcerting to get two blows like that in succession, but you sound like an incredible candidate. I feel certain you will end up somewhere phenomenal and you will be able to do great things. Looking at your accomplishments, it is so clear that you are self-motivated and very capable. Whatever school snaps you up will be lucky indeed.

Cal2u2 – you have excellent credentials. You will get into a great school. Don’t get disheartened.

It is actually more than half the finalists. I believe the distribution has been 30 instate 20 OOS. Don’t feel too bad about it. I suspect some of the finalists will give it up anyhow when they learn whether or not they made it into an Ivy or MIT etc…
