How set in stone are the Presidential Scholarship requirements? I was pretty far off from the 2250 mark (ie 2180), but I think my other credentials are excellent. Is this completely non-negotiable? Can you apply/get recommendation letters or something to help?

Very set in stone

Scholarship Awards
Presidential Scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship award Rutgers offers undergraduates. Awards are $24,000 per year, and include a $11,500 credit for on-campus housing and dining. For those who choose not to live on campus, the award will be $12,500. Students are guaranteed on-campus housing for four years and admission to the Honors Program. To be considered, students must have at least 2250 combined SAT or an ACT score of 35 and an A grade point average.

I agree that the 2250 is an arbitrary cutoff but there are just so many students; they have to set some kind of limits in order to weed out some of them. If they weren’t getting enough eligible people, the cutoff would be lower.

That being said, I do remember reading something here recently about someone who said they got it although they did not meet this particular SAT cutoff. So best to look into it yourself.

Thanks rualum; I’ll look into that. I’m simply not a good test-taker, but I don’t want my class rank, extracurricular activities, etc. to go to waste.

last year, numbers 1, 2, and 3 in my grade all got the presidential scholarship and i’m pretty positive they did not all have a 2250…i think it has a lot to do with rank, i knew one guy who got almost a perfect score and had really good other credentials and didn’t get it
