Presidential Scholarship?

Hi,

I was accepted into UVM and I received the Trustees Scholarship worth $7,000 a year. I have a 1790 SAT, a 3.6 UW GPA, and I'm in the top 20% of my class. I've read that the cutoff for the Presidential Scholarship is 1800 and the top 20% of your class. Would it be worth contacting UVM Financial Aid to see if I could be considered for the Presidential Scholarship since I am literally 10 points away from the eligibility point?

An extra $16,000 over the course of my attendance at UVM would be a great help, especially since my family is going throw some financial issues right now.

Also, would it be better to have my parents contact the financial aid office, or for me to contact them? And by what means (letter, email, phone)?

I’m in the same situation, I got the $7k scholarship but I was close to the Presidential and I have better overall stats than a lot of people who got it. On the other hand, they gave my an additional $5250 OoS grant with my financial aid, so I was happy with that. Class rank definitely hurt me, and with my grades starting to slip towards the end of the year, I think it would be tough to argue for more money. Let me know how it works out for you.

My stats:
GPA: 3.7 uw, 3.95 w
SAT/ACT: 1850/27
Class rank: Just above 25%
Tons or ec’s, sports, and leadership, and all honors classes with 5 AP classes.
