Oh wow! My son was just notified that he is a finalist for the Presidential Scholarship. He is over the moon excited to be admitted to Wake and honored beyond belief to have the opportunity to audition for the scholarship. Now... we just have to get him there.

Coming from Denver is proving to be problematic and he will likely have to fly in on Saturday mid afternoon. Is anyone else flying in that day? If so, do you want to share a ride to campus? A company called Prompt Transportation Services charges $48 for door to door service to campus and you can have additional riders in the car at no extra charge. He will likely fly out Monday evening at 7:45 if anyone wants to share a ride the other way.

My son is now a sophomore and he did indeed receive one of the Presidential Scholarships in theater.
His stats in high school were good. However, the actual numbers aren’t as important as the fact that he was a hard worker who enjoyed learning,he was very involved in theater, and he showed clear leadership in his high school community.
Wake knows that people are more than just numbers.
The Presidential Scholarships at Wake Forest are for the arts: dance, music, theater, visual arts, and debate (Poor debate… not sure how or why it got lumped in here. It is probably based on its oratorical roots.) While you are a very accomplished student, but I don’t see a strong arts focus.
I think you should look at some of the other scholarship programs and push your involvement in Model UN. Thinking more about it… it might even be worth talking to admissions to see if MUN somehow falls under the Speech and Debate umbrella. In that case, you could apply for a Presidential in debate.
