I was offered a full scholarship and the honors program at Rutgers. How are students in the honors program treated? Should I choose Rutgers over more competitive schools I may get into (deferred Yale EA, looking at Swarthmore, Williams, UChicago...)?

First of all, NICE JOB! :)

I have heard great things about the RU Honors Program from my teachers and guidance counselor. Academics/research are good, priority housing which is always good, etc.

Unless you get a full-ride elsewhere, I’d stay with RU. Can’t beat a full scholarship for Honors program.

There’s been a lot posted on these forums about the honors program, etc. I would use the search forum to check it out. I’m a junior right now who attended RU mostly because of the presidential scholarship and the honors program.

I chose Rutgers over places like Hopkins, Uva, and Northwestern because it fit what I was looking for… I’m a pre-med and there were a lot of opportunities here. The honors program offers a bunch of benefits including honors advising, honors housing, honors sections of regular courses, and honors seminars. However, you should realize that you will still, of course, be a Rutgers student. Rutgers is nothing like an Ivy league because it’s a large state school… something that I love. The huge school size leads to more opportunities on campus, more events, and more school spirit. If you have more specific questions, ask away.

Yea, I got into Yale Early Action, but I just found out I got the Presidential Scholarship with my choice of honors program. While Yale is sooooo tempting, its impossible to overlook going to Rutgers Honors without paying a dime…comments?
