did anyone else get the presidential scholarship?

i did. $2,000 a year, but i've yet to see the amount of finaid i received...

i got one that was 8000 a year...does it come in different amounts?

$5,000 here.

8000... what does this mean in terms of programs, does anyone know? do we take a class together or something?

i don't think it does anything to your programs, but i could be wrong.

I got $2000...I think the amount you get is based off financial need, but i'm not completely sure.

I received $2000 for the presidential. Does anyone know what the presidential colliquim is and how many people receive the presidential scholarship?

My son got $5K/year for 4 years. I believe its merit based.

$5000 here...wondering about the presidential colloquium too...anybody have info on it?

I got 2000 a year. It's not based on financial need because I did not apply for financial aid or ever submit any FASFA's or PROFILES.

hey, i got the pres scholarship for 8k per year also.

the president's colloquium (according to the UMD site) is "a forum to bring together merit scholars and member of faculty and staff for discussion of current issues".

btw, where are all you guys from?

i got 8k a year- when i visited they said its based on sat and whatnot

What types of SAT scores and other Stats did you all have, if you are comfortable sharing?

i had a 1530 sat when applying (later moved to 1590) and a 3.9uw 4.8 w gpa with a few extracurriculars, but i held leadership positions in all of them. also i did the full IB diploma.

Awesome Scagneas! Sound like you are very deserving! What exactly is an IB diploma? Are you in MD? Have you accepted and where else did you apply?

IB diploma stands fro international baccalaureate, and it is similar to AP but learning is taught broadly, as opposed to the AP program where much of it is facts and specifics. you can find out more at www.ibo.org . it's a great program, colleges like it and i recommend it to any students who is lucky enough to go to a school that offers it.

i am a maryland resident, but am completing my final 2 years of high school in Toronto, Canada as my dad is a diplomat and we are currently posted here.

I will be attending UMD in the honors program, probably majoring in marketing and/or finance at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. I was also accepted into Wharton at Upenn, Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon, NYU Stern, UC Berkeley, and Babson. (As you can see i was very business oriented).

Wonderful..sounds like you know exactly what you want. My D. is in the honors program and thinks business will be her major but went in undecided..she is a freshman. I guess you will be finding out your dorm within the next few weeks! Most likely Denton.

Do you qualify as an MD resident?

ha sorry if my post came off as a little too serious sounding/boring.

actually, funny you mention the dorms. i actually did not want to live in denton at all (my older sister, brother, and cousin [who is a junior at umd right now] all say the freshman highrises are terrible). so i applied for the global communities program, which is effectively the international dorm. therefore i will be living in dorchester which is much better as i will have a/c, i can reside there during winter & spring breaks, and it is centrally located on campus (right next to the library and dining hall).

and yeah, i qualify as an MD resident because our primary home is in maryland and my dad pays maryland state income tax.

is your daughter a current student at umd, or entering this fall?
