I just got a letter saying i was one of 650 kids to get this, along with a certificate for some reason. The only thing that is kind of weird for me is that its only 6500 a year. Should I have been accepting more, and did anyone else here get it?

nbafan135 - I also received this. Someone else posted that they had contacted TCNJ and they indictaed that they would only be giving out a maximum of $6500/year for merit scholarship.

I think it should be renamed. Other schools have a presidential scholarship and it is a full ride - tuition and room and board.

650 kids? Wouldn't that be half the freshman class?

My merit offer came in my admission letter - it did not say how many students received the presidential offer. Your letter actually stated the number - wow!

yeah i got it too...

@blazing fire, 650 of ACCEPTED students got it...so its 650 out of the entire applicant pool not out of the freshman class.....some of the 650 could (and will probably) opt not to go to tcnj

the weird thing is that 2 friends of mine got $10,000 per year...weird huh? and yes, rutgers presidential scholarship is tuition + room + board so that's a much sweeter deal than 6500 a year...i guess tcnj is lacking in funds or something, nevertheless, it is still a good offer considering how cheap tcnj is to start with

yeah i was pretty surprised by the low amount. i was definitely expecting much more especially since i looked at a chart from like last year and the highest merit award was wayyy higher.

gwirion, you'll probably be getting another letter soon because my offer came with my admission as well but just a couple days ago i received a presidential scholar certificate along with the letter that stated how many people got it.

anyone else going to that scholarship dinner on the 30th?

I'm the person who contacted TCNJ about it. They said the most I could recieve, as a white female, was $6500/year. It seems that the other awards are only for minorities.

Yes, DS, his father, and I are going on the 30th.

yeah the 2 friends of mine that got the 10k per year scholarship were hispanic...don't get me wrong they deserve merit money, but MERIT money should be given out based on MERIT not on race...but that's just my opinion

Does anyone remember any of the details of the dinner tomorrow? I know it’s in Park Ridge but I can’t remember what I did with the $#() piece of paper with the info. Thanks!
