What does the typical student look like that receives this scholarship? How many are given per year?

Yes. Fordham looks at all applicants and reviews them for any scholarship opportunities. Students above 1400 are ordinarily the merit scholarship “pool”. Though exceptions occur for various reasons, obviously.

There are plenty of kids at Fordham with stats like yours. You would be in good company.

I have decided I am going to apply. I am very interested in a Jesuit education.
I see from the website that 20 are selected each year for Presidential. I am hoping I may be in consideration since I need some help with the Fordham tuition.

Any previous presidential scholars that would be willing to post stats?

To some extent, a Jesuit education is very similar from coast to coast at any of the 28 Jesuit colleges. In other words, the “Jesuit” aspect will be very similar. The differences will be in the unique other faculty or programs at the particular schools and the locale of the university. If its Boston you want, you have BC and nearby Holy Cross (Worcester). If its DC you want, then its Georgetown or nearby Loyola Maryland (Baltimore). If its Chicago, then Loyola-Chicago. Saint Louis in St. Louis, Marquette in Milwaukee, Creighton in Omaha, Loyola- New Orleans in “N’Awlins”, etc.

But what Fordham offers is the uniqueness of two campuses in New York: one in Manhattan and one in the Bronx, a beautiful gothic campus next to the Botanical Gardens and Bronx Zoo.

I think you will be in very good shape for a significant scholarship. JMHO.

The more I read and research Fordham the more excited I am that I have applied! Now it is time to just wait and see the result.

MMouse, with your stats, you are a candidate for the Honors Program. Fordham’s Honors Program is very special - if you would like more info, let me know

You said you were a NM Semifinalist- that’s pretty much a guarantee that you’ll get a full scholarship. (Unless they changed it this yeah, for some reason. But I doubt they did.)

My S had a 1580 SAT and got a “semifinalist scholarship” - full tuition, and he got a separate (haven’t figured that out) National Merit scholarship, 2k (reduced by half because of the school’s semifinalist scholarship). He did not get a Presidential scholarship (full ride - tuition, room & board). We are still paying under state rate, so it’s a deal. You’ve got a good chance for either one. His GPA was about a 3.6 - low for a presidential scholarship, I guess.

I was admitted EA with the Semifinalist Scholarship (full tuition). Is there anything additional that I need to do to be eligible for the Presidential Scholarship? I have not yet listed Fordham as my first choice through NM (I’m still deciding between two schools), but I intend to do so once I find out my scholarships at the other school. I’m also assuming that notification is in April along with RD…(?)

Would I have a shot at the PS?
GPA: 4.45W, 3.91UW
ACT: 35
Rank: 2 or 3/350…school doesn’t rank
