Does anyone ever get a Presidential Scholarship if they were not a Richmond Scholars finalist? Do Early Decision students ever get merit scholarships?

My daughter got a letter yesterday saying she is being considered for the Presidential Scholarship. Has anyone else received such a letter? I wondered what the likelihood is that this consideration will actually result in the scholarship? Also is the Presidential $15,000/year or a total of $15,000? Thanks for any info you can provide.

The scholarship is $15,000 per year. Has your daughter already been accepted?

Yes, she was a semi-finalist for the Richmond Scholars program and she learned she was accepted at that time (I think).

Did she apply ED or regular?

She applied RD, but by December 1st.

we received a similar letter. It does state $15,000 renewable for up to 8 semesters. My question is How does this factor into the possible need based financial aid. Their net priced calculator indicate we might receive $25,450 from that leaving us to pay $32,240 per year. Would the grand total be substantially lower with the presidential scholarship?

Good question…I think the merit would be subtracted from what they give you, but I don’t know that for sure.
