Presidential Semi-finalist Discussion

The presidential semi-finalist decisions came out today. Post your stats here if you got accepted! Congrats to those who were accepted. Does anyone know how the Semi-finalists are chosen? Also, is it just based on grades/SAT scores, or do they take the entire application into consideration.

I don’t think it’s purely test score/grade based. You can check my stats on the EA decision thread… I still haven’t gotten any notification about being a semifinalist. Hmm…

Yeah, I got PSP semifinalist! But, you will be notified by email.

I’m excited to be selected to be semi. I got decent SATs (2290) etc, and publications/Siemens semi (although I did not put Siemens in my app cuz I got it in late October), but I hope I’ll be able to put it on the following app that they gonna send me. I’m surprised tho, from what I know, Tech told me that PSP semi is announced december

I received an e-mail today saying I am a semi-finalist for PSP. I posted most of my stats in the early action outcome thread.

I got it too.

Are you all from Georgia?
Everyone I’ve heard of who got PSP in the very first round has been from GA…
Hmmm…
This seems so totally random. Unless they are only letting in the GA people right now.

No, I’m not from GA

My daughter also got it, and is not from GA.

OK now, sorry if I sound dumb…but I’m not sure what this Honors Program thing that’s doing the rounds is all about.
Is it something we PSP semifinalists also are supposed to apply to?Is it either PSP or Honors? Or can it be both PSP (+) Honors?

The President’s Scholarship Program and the Honors Program are two different programs. You can participate in both, but getting into one does not guarantee acceptance into the other. Everyone who applies by the Nov. 1 deadline is considered for PSP, but to be considered for the Honors Program you must apply here: [Georgia Institute of Technology :: Honors Program](<a href=“Home Page | GT Honors Program”>Home Page | GT Honors Program)

For more information about the honors program you can visit their website here: [Georgia Institute of Technology :: Honors Program :: Prospective Students](<a href=“Home Page | GT Honors Program”>Home Page | GT Honors Program)

^^Is the HP more academic-oriented than the PSP?Does everyone who’s accepted to GA Tech get to apply,or is it by invitation only? And from a prestige perspective, does one have more value than the other?I’m basically trying to pinpoint the specific differences between the 2,not sure I’m understanding where the difference lies-is it in the activities,or the academic courses,or something else?

^well, u should research more about Ga Tech then. Obviously, u don’t know much about the school. I assume this is ur safety.

Wait…I have a question…

Wasnt there two deadlines for the presidential scholarship program? Oct 1st and Nov 1st??
I applied before Nov 1st…I’m not getting results til next friday. Are those results gonna tell me if I’m a finalist?
I’m kinda confused…

tuhtles,

You’ve got it right.

All applicants who applied by Nov. 1 are considered for the President’s Scholarship Program. Notifications will go out to PSP Semi-Finalists (not finalists) in mid-December.

I got semi-finalist a few weeks ago! I have a question: do we need to submit our letters of recommendation yet? I only got the first email saying to ask your teachers, but I never got any more information after that.

I think they are waiting until this Friday when the other semifinalists are named to send the info about teacher recs.
