Kids are out of school that week. I have signed up for 4 vacation days, we have made reservations for the dog and we will set out on a week of touring colleges. Our list includes Lafayette, Lehigh, Dickinson, Gettysburg and probably Loyola College in Md. Please don't suggest other schools, you will only confuse us!! We might also sneak in a peak at TCNJ (college of New Jersey). Different kids, different colleges. 2 yrs ago during this same week we went to Roanoke, Randolph Macon, Lynchburg, and Washington College. I remember thinking that 4 colleges was about my limit.

well we are heading to Portland Saturday taking the dog- theoretically I suppose we could look at Lewis and Clark or maybe Portland state- but I imagine we will see the nickle arcade, probably hit up some "vintage" clothing stores on Hawthorne and Monday( when older D is swamped) go snowboarding on Mt Hood.
coming back on Tuesday-
I think you are doing pretty good- 4 colleges is a lot

Our vacation week trip includes Brandeis, Vassar and Skidmore. First college trips - tough junior year, so d is less than excited about it, but I'm going to have fun!

emerald:
In 2004 we took our dog on the college tours! Most were in the summer, so it was pretty easy to do. This year we have two dogs -- they're staying home!

We only have one trip planned next week -- Penn State has an Engineering Open House on the 25th. Son has stage crew everyday and he "can't miss." When we are going to get serious about the tours I have no idea.

Weenie, be careful about Open Houses at large universities. While they do offer a way to visit with faculty/grad students and visit labs, they can be very crowded and hectic. The one we took at our flagship university totally turned off our son and while he applied and was accepted into its Honors College, it remained last on his list.

If your son is put off by the Open House atmosphere, try to schedule another traditional visit. He might get a very different feel for Penn State. If he likes the OH, well there yoe go!

Wife and Son are heading off today. Missing a few days of school and returning on Monday night. Elon, Furman, Presbyterian, Winthrop and a Wofford drive-by. Son is not only put off by Open Houses, but by the canned, generic regular visits as well (Admissions DVD or presentation where everyone is happy, followed by the tour where everyone is happy, followed by the dorm visit where everyone is happy). So we'll see how it goes.

worrywart and Chevda, I wrote extensive trip reports on both Brandeis and Vassar last summer. Search the archives for them. My D enjoyed both and ended completing the application to and being accepted at Brandeis. Enjoy!

Thanks, quiltguru - found them! I'll have to search your other threads and see if you have write-ups for some of the other colleges she's interested in!

Thanks, guiltguru-- I've never tried a search on this site before. Hope it's easy. In the meantime, can anyone comment on Vassar from their son's perspective?

I'll be happy to report back, cangel and others. My only concern is that my wife and son are far less anal than I am about in-depth trip reports, so de-briefing them may be difficult.

worrywart, try an advanced search. Click on Search button, then "Advanced Search" in the drop down menu. I bet if you then searched for "Vassar" in posts by "quiltguru" you'd find it pretty quickly. Make sure you use quiltguru, not guiltguru! :)

We're hopping into the Subaru WRX and cruising down hiway 5 to Southern California. We'll be visiting UCLA, UCSB, and UCSD, and a UCI drive-by. S2 is a junior, and these will be his first university visits (other than visiting S1 at UCB).
