Did anyone else receive a letter saying they were a President's Scholar? I have no idea what this even means? Anybody?

my son’s girlfriend just received one. Congratulations - you are in an extremely select group. you need to call Admissions immediately and have them explain this.

Great! Thanks! I was able to catch them before they left for the weekend and had it all explained. I feel pretty lucky! :)

I am a letter writer for presidential scholars. Presidential scholars are picked as top students, but are not necessarily admitted. I believe we send out emails to entice students who might be accepted.

i also got a letter saying this and am curious… do you think you could tell me what they said when you called?

Yeah they basically said that we get a $6470 to supplement any financial aid (if you applied). I guess that can be renewed each year as long as you keep in “good academic standing”. There are opportunities to be a paid research assistant and they will pay for your first year of music lessons. I guess the person I talked to said that there is one weekend in April where we participate in some special behind-the-scenes tours and they will cover up to $400 for travel if you live outside of NE. Furthermore, we will be invited to special “social events” organized by the Dean of Faculty and in our first year, there is an opportunity to dine with the president and various faculty members at his house. So pretty much a bunch of pretty cool opportunities!

Just being nosy and curious, where are you from?

yeah i got a letter too. do you know around what time you’re visiting? i’m probably going april 12th. i’m from nyc btw.

I’m not quite sure yet. I really want to visit but it’s actually getting out there is the problem. We’ll see though. :)

I found this website which helped out a bit.

[Colby College | Admissions & Financial Aid | Colby Presidential Scholars](http://www.colby.edu/admissions/presidential)

I am freshman at Colby now, and I was selected as a Presidential Scholar. The amount of money you get varies with your financial need. We went to one dinner at the president’s house in the fall. It was a nice dinner, but overall the program doesn’t provide many opportunities.
