Prestige of universities

Does the 'prestige' of a university matter for your undergraduate degree if you plan on attending graduate school?

Generally no. If you plan on going to graduate school, the graduate school is what matters.

The greatest influence on student goals and aspirations in college is the peer group. If a prestigious college provides a very talented peer group, then yes, undergrad matters. In fact IMO, it matters more since grad school is where you begin to craft a career but undergrad is where you begin to craft a life.

^I think the OP is talking about after grad school which matters more on a resume (but correct me if I’m wrong). And in that case the prestige of your grad school is what matters. However, the prestige of your undergrad matters a lot in grad school admissions. Even though there are a lot of people who attend state schools for undergrad and Ivies for graduate, the vast majority do not.

most people don’t realize this, but prestige is based almost SOLELY on the percentage of students a school admits. It’s almost always true.
