Top 5/10…Illinois is one of the schools. So UConn to Illinois.

That makes it interesting.

It might almost be worth it… especially since you don’t seem to be attracted to UConn at all, regardless of what your sister thinks… YOU don’t seem to value it.

Illinois:
General UG: 47
Engineering:6

Connecticut:
General UG: 69
Engineering:N/A

I would go with Illinois if cost isn’t an issue. I don’t know that IL is such a great school to warrant spending too much more money to attend, but if you don’t like UConn, go for it.

U Conn doesn’t have a great rep, but there are other state schools that do. You can save your parents money by going to a great out of state school - that will still be cheaper than private school. The Wall St Journal recently published an article about the top schools, ranked by recruiters, and the top was Penn State. They do have a good engineering school so I’d put that at the top of your list. However, the entrance to Penn State will be much more competitive than to U Conn.

It is hardly cheaper to go to a state school as an OOS applicant. Usually, tuition is similar to that of private schools.

informative, I don’t know where you are getting your information on public vs. private school tuition, but I can assure you that out of state tuition at a public university is less than full tuition at a private one. The OP is interested in a good engineering school. here is one comparison

Lehigh tuition $39, 480
Penn State OOS $27, 276

Thats a difference of over $12,00 per year!
