Prestige

Hey everyone..I come from an above average large public in Jersey where we send 2-3/yr to lower Ivy's (~450 students per grade). I was just wondering how prestigious Notre Dame is viewed nationally because when people found out I was accepted to Notre Dame it was a huge deal. I had teachers whom I've never talked to coming up to me in the hallway and talking to me about it and when I walked into the guidance department they all congratulated me (even though i only know one of them). SO i was just wondering if this is normal, or if maybe it is because people from my school rarely apply to Notre Dame. BTW I got into University of Michigan EA also and no1 really seemed too impressed or seemed to care.

Congratulations. Its a very prestigious school - its top 20 consistently on USNews rankings.

Yeah, I had a similar experience when I was accepted, and I live in Florida. From what I gather, it’s most prestigious in the Midwest and East Coast, but it’s also pretty prestigious on the West Coast. It’s got the biggest alumni network, when measured by number and location of alumni clubs. A Notre Dame degree has been assessed as one of the most valuable degrees, and it is in the rare position of being a big academic school and a big sports school, with great traditions in both, which not only heightens national attention but also keeps alumni dedicated to the school.
