Prestigious Colleges in Florida?

what are the most prestigious colleges in FL?

i am not looking to go to a school just for its prestige; however, my mom is upset that i am interested in the florida area because she doesnt think that there are any good colleges there. i know there must be, like UF, UMiami, and i just would like to know how they rank. thanks!

The top college that I see here is UF but if you go there you have to go to the honors college to be recognized. If you prefer the MIami area than it will def. be MIami. Rollins college is also pretty good and it is in an awesome area with alot of trendy stores. Other than that they all sort of blend together to me.

None of them are really prestigious. That's being about as blunt as it comes.

Florida isn't the best state when it comes to colleges. It's definitely no Pennsylvania.

The closest you'll get to prestigious is University of Florida and University of Miami, both of which are decent schools.

the new college of florida is also gaining in prestige, but it's still considered a rather quirky school. no school in florida has the prestige level of a stanford or yale, but uf and umiami might be on the same level as, oh, american or uc-irvine. just get a copy of the us news report and see how they rank - here on cc we know that us news is a load of bs in terms of seeking a best fit but it will give you a good idea of how prestigious certain schools are seen to be.
uf is particularly known for giving lots of scholarships. i know a girl who turned down harvard for uf because uf gave her a full ride since she had an ib diploma. so it's possible that future employers will see uf and think "she needed to go someplace affordable" rather than "she couldnt get in anywhere better."

People dont' go to Florida for college.

"The only people that go to Florida are newlyweds and nearly-deads".

New College of Florida, UF, Rollins, and UMiami are the best colleges in Florida. Why move off to hurricane world?...

For in-state, UF is the best. Miami and Rollins are both pretty expensive considering that I could go to UF and get paid for it (gotta love bright futures). FSU is stronger than UF for some subjects - such as music.

While none of the colleges are really well known for anything other than football (not at HYPS level), you can find a good education at several schools.

My thoughts exactly. And the ones that do are nuts. Reason why I'm leaving FL for college. Ah. I can't wait!

New College of Florida is the scariest place I have been. For me ,a republican, I couldnt spend more than 5 minutes there.

How about university of south florida?

No offense to anyone who went USF but that place is a joke. It is the last choice before a comm. college. If you like florida just go to FSU or FU, they are the number one choices by far.

I told my mum that. And i dont know why she insisted on me applying there. lol. I am international btw so i am limited to knowledge about US universities

UF and UM are about the only ones anyone will probably show respect to

Rollins and U Miami both have good reputations

USF is actually a good school. It just doesn't have the greatest rep because everyone uses it as a safety and it's easy to get in. I hear the research program is strong and improving. Same with it's med school. It's the only school I applied to in Florida. If I had to stay in Florida (happy I don't have to) I'd rather go there than UF, FSU, or UM. They've never appealed to me the way they do with others at my school.

If USF is a good school, what school in the country isn't "good'. Florida has no good schools, nothing close to an Emory, Duke, or Georgetown.

No one is debating that USF is on level with Duke.

That wasn't the point.

I agree that University of Florida and University of Miami are generally considered to be the top college in Florida. However, Florida State is no slouch either. Also, if you are into art, Ringling School of Art and Design has a very good reputation.
