Prestigious Creative Writing Camps?

Do you guys know of any prestigious writing, especially creative writing, camps for 9th graders and up? Thanks!:)

There’s the Princeton journalism one, and I think the Iowa’s writer’s workshop thing is good too… Not sure if it’s necessarily prestigious.

My son attended a summer writing camp at University of Iowa, and also went to a Writers Camp in New Mexico under the Duke TIP program, which he got into because of high SAT scores. There is also a good one at Kenyon College in Ohio.

Iowa Young Writers’ Studio, Kenyon College Young Writers Workshop.

look at duke and university of virginia, im pretty sure they both have one. good luck!

Iowa Young Writers’ Studio is an excellent program and very competitive. Six students (including my daughter) from 2009 session were accepted at Yale. Students accepted to this program are some of the most creative.
University of Virginia (DD attended in 2008) and Kenyon College have also top notch programs. Sewanee University and Oberlin College, I think, still have it.

These programs are not camp. They are 2 to 3 weeks of intensive daily writing with some reading and lots of reviews and re-writing.

lillymom, I know this is an old thread, but as I attended iowa and am applying to Yale, I’d like to know where you got that information from. Thanks in advance!

I’ve sent my daughter to two other camps (in Ohio and Virginia), then after her junior year we sent her to the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio. Amazing. She’d never been around such talented, creative, and fun people before. Then the instructors all are part of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop - the best of the best. Iowa is where all great writers come, from high school aged to Nobel Prize winners. We just loved Iowa City, the program, everything. She’s headed to Princeton this fall, studying creative writing/lit and biology.

Like others, I heard that Iowa and Kenyon were both incredible! I have friends who went there, so if you have any specific questions, I can badger them about it.
