<p>Another bump, I’d especially like more literature opportunities. For creative writing, the trump card is actually getting published–but that’s far more difficult than Intel/Siemens.</p>
<p>Coming across this 3 years later, but I had to comment. I guess NHD difficulty varies from state to state. It’s huuuugee here in Texas. Paper is absolutely cutthroat. 6th year and still didn’t make it to Nationals, lol - and this is my main academic EC…spend a LOT of time on it. But I do enjoy it just for the sake of it. ^^,</p>

<p>The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) runs a national writing award program for high school students. Students submit samples of their best revised writing, plus something written in a couple of hours on a specified theme. Unlike the Scholastic Writing Awards, which emphasize fiction and poetry, this is more oriented to analytical writing. Back in the day when I was a high school student, there was a fair amount of overlap between the kids who won NCTE writing awards and the kids who got into TASP.</p>
