Prettiest College or University

I thought my D was all set on her colleges. She was thinking USC, Rice, and McGill for music performance. Last night out of the blue she says, "I am not sure I want to be a music performance major. How about Boston College?" I know nothing about Boston college. But, when asked why Boston College she replied, "I've heard it's very pretty and romantic in a college sort of way." So, what are some of the prettiest colleges? She wants cold weather and snow. She has a 4.0W but about a 3.7 or so UW. She has taken 3 APs(all 4s and 5s) and is currently in 2 right now. SATs totaled 2020. When asked what major, if not music, she replied she wasn't sure. I have no idea what is going on in her head right now. But, I would love to help her find the perfect school.

Grinnell in IA is beautiful, has small classes, great profs, amazing facilities and certainly has cold weather and snow.

I should add Oberlin.

I graduated from UNC-CH in 1985 and thought that was the prettiest school in NC until we visited Wake Forest with my DS this summer. Wow! Not so much snow, but we loved the magnolia trees on the quad and the forest-like setting surrounding the campus. We stayed in Graylyn Conference Center, also very pretty.

Saint Mary’s College of CA
UC Santa Cruz
Santa Clara University
Stanford

Rice in Houston is very pretty. In general colleges with lots of land have pretty campuses. Colleges that are surrounded by cities are not that pretty. No need to ask. Just check the google map. If you find college with lots of surface area it will be pretty.

" But, I would love to help her find the perfect school."

In many ways, BC IS the perfect school. Bigtime sports, Jesuit academics, campus overlaps the Boston/Newton border, mass transit line starts right across the street, religious but if you don’t want to get involved NOBODY will say a word to you about it, one of the safest campuses in the country (surrounded on 3 sides by one of the richest suburbs in the country). John Kerry went to law school there. Amy Pohler and Chris O’Donnell went there. Springsteen sent his son there. Can you blame them?: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8e/BCburnslawnsunset.jpg

“Pretty” is subjective.

If we’re talking places with snow and cold weather, I agree that BC is pretty. I also think Cornell is a beautiful campus.

USC, Rice, and McGill certainly cover a lot of the map! But only one of them provides snow on days that hell hasn’t frozen over.

Bryn Mawr is very pretty – collegiate gothic in a suburban setting, like BC, but on a non-monumental scale, and with public transportation access to the city. Wellesley, too – you can rent Mona Lisa Smile and check it out – a little more self-important.

(There are a bunch of usual suspects, too. Princeton, Yale, Cornell, UVa, Williams, Middlebury, Amherst, Bowdoin, Colby – all have their fans, and a lot of other schools do, too.)

sorry missed the bit in the op about cold. scratch my picks. OOOOPs

OP, these may not be the schools for your D, but since we are talking about pretty colleges, here is what I think. Prettiest college we’ve toured - Wellesley. This is one of their dorms:

Our state flagship, UW, is “landlocked” within the city, but the campus still looks pretty and feels as if it is not located in the middle of the urban jungle (as long as you don’t look at the dorms). Cherry blossoms at UW is one of the prettiest sights:

Think about Notre Dame. What a beautiful campus! What snow! What spirit!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I heartily agree with UNC Chapel Hill.

Indiana University in Bloomington is beautiful (would have snow, full choice of any major and a highly ranked music program)
Rhodes in Memphis
And for gothic type/nature The university of the South (Sewanee) ranks right up there in beauty imo

For beauty in the cold, Cornell and Williams. Might add the original campus of the University of Chicago, still the University’s centerpiece.
For folks from California, Princeton. My Chicago daughter feels the school has no self-respecting winter at all.

Tough to top Pepperdine

And never any snow :)

If you are looking for something that is “pretty and romantic in a college sort of way” like Boston College, Pepperdine isn’t it. If you are looking for something that is pretty and romantic like a beach resort development in Acapulco, maybe.

Middlebury and Colgate always seem to get rave reviews for campus beauty. Cornell has a lovely location with spectacular views and architecturally diverse campus and not a bad music scene either (because of Ithaca College)
