outofstate: Yeah, I was also concerned between the jump in CR and M..but what can I do, it’s who I am. Anyway, I really think it was probably for financial reasons (i would have needed a LOT of money to attend). Either way, it’s ok because AU was never really on my radar although I consider it to be a great school (i realized I’m looking more for a small LAC).
Basically the thing that is bothering me is that I haven’t heard back from almost any of my other schools yet and AU was a safer bet for me, so the waitlist just freaks me out on the rest of the schools!

Congrats to all that got in and good luck to those that didn’t!

I don’t know either why you didn’t get in..my stats are really low compared to yours. SAT: Math 540 Critical Reading 600 Writing: 620
GPA: 3.5..tons of extra curriuclars and community service… :/

Most LACs mail the end of this week and early next if I recall my daughter’s responses last year. The only schools she heard from earlier where the couple that offered her merit scholarships.

You are right there is not much you can do about the Math numbers. I feel your pain. Math was never my strong suit. Good luck with your other apps.

maybe it’s better to be waitlisted then offered admission without much financial aid…for someone with genuine need, that would be like being rejected.

it would be nice if we can pretend that they are waiting to see if some of their top $ offers are turned down by the geniuses who end up going elsewhere, then they’ll be able to make you a reasonable offer with the waitlist decision.

It makes a little sense when others with lower stats are being accepted.

But one thing’s for certain, nothing about admissions makes “sense” - sometimes I swear they throw darts at applications pasted on the walls.

You’ve got great stats - you’ll get in somewhere good. Some schools are mailing this last week of March !..Have any schools asked for copies of tax forms etc…that’s a good sign that they are trying to fill the gap with need based aid !

^^Thanks ahoo2u that’s a really nice comment, I hadn’t really imagined the waitlist that way!

And yes, Conn College asked for some additional tax info in early march…keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks again everyone…good luck! I know I can’t wait until May 2.

i was shocked i was waitlisted…
3.5 unweighted gpa (in honors and APs)
SAT: 720 CR, 650 M, 760 W
SAT II Lit 760
vp of 2 clubs, plus other stuff
national spanish and latin honor societies
national merit finalist and a bunch of other awards
hospital volunteer
work 20ish hours a week at a job ive had a year and a half
etc etc

Tufts syndrome in full swing for some in this thread…but the op seems to be a match for American. I don’t understand how Admissions offices operate, and I probably never will. Maybe they just throw all the students with “similar” backgrounds into a hat and do it randomly? That method probably works better than what some schools use!

hey i got waitlisted too… and at george washington.

3.7 UW GPA, about 4.2 weighted, 2010 SAT. great ECs and amazing essay, semi-legit teacher rec. but i asked for aid and i didnt show much interest in the school so, while im surprised, im not really upset about it.

Got waitlisted with a 660 m 660 cr 720 writing top 10% NHS, student council, soccer, volunteering galor etc5 on APUSH 4 on Eng. Language and pitt credit for Stats, taking gov test. etc;

wow i don’t see why you didn’t get in.. but you got accepted to some other really great schools… so congratulations!! and i don’t know if this will make you feel better… the NY times said that the high school graduating class in the USA this year is the biggest the country’s ever had… and the ivies didnt take over 800 people with perfect sections on their SATs… so everything is much more competitive than usual… timing sucks for us

If I had to guess, it would be due to financial aid. I highly doubt AU is need blind, especially considering the type of merit money they give out to some already. They simply do not make any money off of a student who they have to essentially pay for with a grant. Good luck at Wesleyan, its a very good school.

I do actually find it a bit refreshing, however, that AU is becoming competitive enough to wait list people with 2000 + SAT scores. Even if that sounds a bit insensitive to some.
