Pretty Much Everyone Gets the "Who's Who Among HS Students"

I just got my letter today and I was like, "This is ridiculous. I had a 3.4 GPA, an average 1400 SAT, no leadership roles, a bunch of typical ECs. What is this?"

So if pretty much anyone can get a "Who's Who" offer, what's the point?

I didn't get it. ;(

After being introduced to this "who's who" program, I think it's a bit of a scam.

But all the while, will colleges look negatively upon a student who's not on the list b/c their school does not take part in it/nominate people for this list?
If two people had the similar stats, ECs and stuff, the only difference being the Who's Who list, will the person w/out the Who's Who title be viewed much worse?

I don't think so, because this is a question of how much your school offers. I have a 4.0 GPA and all that jazz and I'm not on the list probably because my school may have never heard of this, which may be because I reside in rural Virginia, where all that college hype is pretty much non existant. Colleges will base decisions on how much your school offers too, what race you are, your income, whether your parents graduated from college or not, etc etc.

its just a scam.. i got a letter from them too.... basically they just want to get the 50 usd out of you for the book imo :p .. not sure if i'd wanna write that in my application since its pretty useless. I heard that they just choose kids from the school honor roll list..

The "point" is for the publishers to make money.

I had enough other stuff that i considered more important that who's who never made it to any applications or anything. I don't think it matters in the least to colleges. However, I know someone who did get a scholarship from them, so it's not completely useless.

oh, I only have a 3.2 and a 1620 SAT - so, pretty much everyone gets it, if their school participates.
