haha this will definitely seem shallow...but its been on my mind.

For anyone who has visited ivies, have you noticed the physical appearance of its students? It's so stereotypical to say ivies are filled with brainics who study all day have no social life and are ugly. butt of course there are exceptions.

when i went to visit columbia, I noticed that it was pretty mixed up. There were ok looking people, people who looked extremely smart/brainaictic, athletic looking, a few really pretty people...what did you find? I wonder if the adcoms all met with every single applicant...if looks would play a big deal!
AND Columbia is in New York..does that make a difference? New Yorkers generally are a lot more polished looking and current in fashion. What do you guys think.

I met quite a few attractive women at Columbia...but, unfortunately, the quality of girls there pales in comparison to those of my high school...I'll miss those girls!

out of curiosity though... do they ask for a pic because they really do wanna see how attractive or un-attrac applicants are?

and as humans.. do u think adcoms naturally have a subconscious bias to pretty people?
and if you're gorgeous with a pretty good app, as opposed to ok looking with a great app, which applicant do u think has a greater chance?

anndddd.... do u think the celebs that go to columbia were chosen because of their "celeb" status.. or are they really QUALIFIED?

(lol soz..! i'm a very inquisitive person.. or an annoyingly persistent one.. whatever sinks your ship..!!!) :)

i believe the celebs were because they were celebs..but they have to be competent too. a stupid celeb would be like...a bad idea. but they can get away with like probably a 1000 + sat score.

but universities ALWAYS want publicity..attention = more applicants, higher ratings.therefore, if your parents are famous, or you are famous, the likelihood of you getting in is like 90 x better than someone who is just a regular kid.

I think the keyword here is "subconscious".

Some ad-coms will probably subconsciously like you because you are good looking, while...IF and a big IF...if the ad com is not very attractive, he or she might have a grudge against good looking people and sterotype them into people who only have looks and no brains...

but overall, being good looking (or at least not ugly) help somewhat...but then again, beauty is all comparative, so who knows?

people subconciously find people with asymmetrical faces difficult to trust. we make judgments about them without even thinking about it. so if someone's face were subtly asymmetrical, it might influence the adcom to reconsider the person, but i doubt that it would affect their getting in or not.

I think in asking for your picture, they're testing your self-confidence more than your attractiveness. I just visited columbia today, and the general student body is similar to most schools of that caliber.

there is a direct correlation between hotness and brains. x = 10^hotness(1-10 scale); brains = 1/x. lol jk but it really does have something to do with time and how much of it they spend on beautifying themselves. I mean what would they be doing if they're not cramming. But there are some exceptions.

so miss, you think famous people have a 90 x better chance than normal people?? wowowww.. lol.. gotta get famous in ONE MONTH! lol.. ne advice? haha jk.
HMMM... yeh the "self confidence" thing does make sense...

o im so glad i sent in my pic now :) haha!!!

I hope sending in the picture is a good idea with advantages rather than disadvantages............

hotness isn't everything. At least you know that you can have a good conversation during a relationship with someone from columbia. at my high school a lot of the hot ones are messed up and hard to talk with cause they are so fried.

Sorry, I'm new to this. But if you apply online, do they allow you to send your picture via internet, or is that supplemental material, too? Thanks guys :O)

No.. on the online app there is a designated place for the optional photograph.
there are specific tabs saying "picture" and "additional info"

so you just have to upload the pic and stuff..
but you can't upload it as a jpeg or picture file... put the picture on microsoft word then upload the file.
