Pretty please with a cherry on top!

I know there's no definite way to determine whether or not I'll be accepted, but I feel that hearing from actual UCB students would help give me a idea at least.

Stats:

Weighted GPA: 4.625 (currently but will be raised because I'm taking 2 more AP classes this year)

Unweighted GPA: 3.85

I'm not sure about my current rank. It's either 8/501 or 15/501 (there was a problem with my counselor so I'm not sure...)

I've taken all honors (except classes like Spanish where you can't take honors at my school) and by the time I graduate, I will have taken 5 AP classes (including taken AP Senior English [or AP English Literature] in my sophomore year.) I will also have taken Statistics and Life Management Skills at a community college.

AP Scores:

AP English Literature - 5
AP English Language and Composition - 5
AP U.S. History - 5

SAT I score was 800 Writing, 740 Critical Reading, and 600 Math (overall, 2140), but I retook it in November and hope to get an 800 CR and for math...I really can't say. I definitely studied for it, so I hope to get at least a middle range 600, if not higher.

SAT II - U.S. History (710); Literature (730)

Extracurriculars:

My main extracurriculars are:

a.) Screenwriting. My primary passion. For the past 7 years, I have worked on the scripts for my TV series 10 hours every week. (about 480 hours a year, 3360 overall.) I have also written 2 short films, started one in-progress feature-length film script, and also have a large collection of original ideas for films and television series that I plan to write.

b.) Creative writing. While I have been writing stories, poems, and other works almost all my life, I’ll concentrate on my accomplishments during the 4 years of high school: I have written three novels (one in-progress), seven novellas, five short stories, one play, one musical, a large portfolio of poetry, and a portfolio of song lyrics.

c.) Alliance Entertainment Independent Film Company. (freshman - senior year)
-Acting (starred in one full-length independent film and a played a small role in another)
-Cinematography (two full-length independent films)
-Creative consulting (three full-length independent films)

d.) Animation Appreciation Club (freshman - senior year)
I was the Discussion Leader in this club, which was centered on discussing, debating, and analyzing the merits, faults, and meanings of various animated works. Animation is a passion of mine and a field in which I highly desire to work in the future.

e.) Newspaper Club (freshman year)
-Staff writer for the school newspaper; the only freshman admitted to work on the paper.

Community Service:

1.) I created and spearheaded a special writing workshop for interested middle school students to learn the skills and art of different forms of writing (screenwriting, fiction writing, poetry, and journalism).

2.) For two summers, I was an acting coach for a middle school's summer program called Shakespeare Festival. I drama-coached middle school students for these productions.

3.) Writing poetry for individuals going through difficult times [sick/dying, those who have recently lost a loved one, et cetera] to help get them through their strife

4.) Participated in two episodes of a local television program called "Today's Family" as a guest speaker

5.) Junior Honor Guard [top 10 students, assisting with graduation ceremony and senior banquet]

Awards:

1.) I won third place in the San Diego competition “Voice of Democracy”, which comprises an essay and an audio recording of the essay on a specific topic concerning America. I was the first person from El Cajon to make it to the finals.

2.) I have won 1st place two times in the Rancho San Diego Library Poetry Contest and was published in two poetry anthologies.

Not sure if it makes a difference, but I'm not quite sure about my major yet...I'm probably going to declare an English, Sociology, PoliSci, or Film major...

One thing I'm not sure about:

-I have taken Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra II but no Pre-Cal or Calculus. I am taking Statistics at a community college this spring, however. Would this make a big difference?

Thanks in advance for any feedback! :)

Give us your UC GPA

You’re pretty much a shoe-in but if you want to pursue screenwriting/film/animation, then Berkeley wouldn’t be the best fit. Look into UCLA, USC, and NYU–schools with excellent academic programs and strong alumni networks in the business.

@anon5524485: I’m not 100% sure, but I did some online calculator and it said 4.33.

@Viper: Thank you so much! And yeah, I am definitely applying to USC, NYU, and UCLA. However, I’m not certain that I want to choose a school almost solely based on its film program…I would really like to go to the school that will provide for the best undergrad experience for me personally. If it happens to be a major film school too, then great! But if not, I’m planning on USC or NYU for grad school. :)
