Pretty stuck, rejected UCSD& UCSB

I am currently a student at a CC. After this spring semester I will have 58transferable UC credits, perhaps because it wasn't 60 is why i was denied, with a GPA right now of 3.76. I got accepted in San Francisco State, but I really don't want to go to this school. My dream is going to UC. Do you think it is better to stay at my CC and try and apply for spring 2013 to go to a UC, or attend SF state for fall 2012 and apply to UCs as a senior? I really don't want a degree for SF, nor do I even want to live there.

what do i do ;<?

@alienowls

UCs almost never accept students that don’t have 60 semester units done by spring, period.

First of all. I don’t believe much if the UCs accept spring transfers. Except for Merced? Don’t quote me on that, but it’s like 1 or 2 UCs that accept spring admits.

Second of all. UCs don’t accept senior transfers. So even of you have a whole bunch of units after your extra year of CC, you will still be considered a junior transfer. Your classes will give you credit for pre reqs and such, but it won’t give you more unit count at a CC.

If you really dont want to go to a csu, then stay the extra year at a CC. you save money from going to a csu for a random year. That’s what I would do anyways.

^^he will only be considered a senior standing if he has attended a 4 year university. Besides he only needs to take 1 3-unit class to be eligible transfer which will be a total of 61 UC transferable units. Unfortunately UC’s no longer accept spring applicants, other than merced? Not sure though.

you can stay in CC for one more year (i know, painful) and then transfer with 60units. it is a drag, but on the other hand you can knock off tons of units for you major and be sure to have an easy 2 years at a UC. i feel for ya dude, i was held back a year because of one class. but i was accepted into my major (impacted) at UCLA this year. and will have an easy time for the next two years. good luck dude.

^Take the class in the summer, go to Europe and teach English for a year and come back and finish school. I did it in Spain and it was awesome. You don’t have to waste a year and you can still go to UC.

^ also a great idea. definitely worth waiting one year and applying again to a top UC. don’t end up in a state school. good luck.

Nothing wrong with staying another year. I did the same thing and took other classes required for different majors and also took interest classes. If you do decide to take a break, make sure it’s a productive break. Universities don’t want to hear that you took a break from your education and did nothing with the time.

How long have you been at CC? I say wait another year if you really want to go to a UC =)

As a guy who waited a year to get to a UC, I would instruct you to wait. You only get one shot at this, might as well wait a year to make it what you want. I’m at UCSD now.

@alienowls 100% UC will reject you for missing units. Same thing happened to me for only 1 or 2 units>< i just stayed another year.

:) thanks for all the help guys! By the looks of it, it seems a UC school is worth the wait! I hope it really work out in the long run. I hardly have an extra circulars so i guess during the time frame I will get some done! Just kinda sucks be rejected for 2units, but something we all have to deal with.
@TapleyA45 Ive been going exactly 2 years.

Yeah. I’d take another semester at your CC, rack up a few more credits including your prereqs (the cap for a transfer applicant is 80 UC-transferable credits), get involved in some community activities, and reapply to the UCs you want to go to. It sounds like you’re a strong applicant, so I think you’d get into at least one of these. SF State’s a good school, but SFSU is low on funds and it’s incredibly difficult to get classes there. I live in San Francisco, and know a ton of people who are going to SF State and have a hard time getting classes, so they end up taking a lot of their courses at City College of San Francisco or other CCs. Just wait another year, take classes you like, get involved in stuff, and then reapply. Good luck!

great, and do get all the prereqs for your first choice UC schools. use the assist.org seriously, a year will fly by. just don’t get an bad grades. remember to drop classes if you don’t get along with the teachers. haha. well, you know all this. it will be nice to have all the lower division work out of the way before you transfer. also, check into taking courses at other schools if some prereqs are not offered at your CC. will really fortify your app for next year. have fun.
