so my music theory and ochem classes are both S/U and I need at least a C- to get a satisfactory grade. This term hasn't been to well for me and I have a feeling I won't be able to pass these two classes. This is what I'm thinking now: focus on ochem and not bother studying for/taking the music theory final. That way I will have more of a chance to pass at least ochem. OR should I study for both finals and attempt to pass them both? I mean, at this point, it's A LOT of stuff I need to catch up on and studying for both might be a waste of time when I'm pretty sure I can't pass them both. I go to music theory class but it's just so hard for me (I didn't have any music knowledge coming in the class). I don't know if I should take this gamble. Any thoughts?

At least try. Study for both and take both finals. That way you know you at least tried. I’ve had some classes where I just knew I failed but I didn’t. Just give it your all okay?

When are finals? Do you have a few days to study?

Have you talked to the professor yet?

my music theory final is on monday and ochem is on wednesday. That should give me enough time to study but it’s on top of the other things I have to do. Plus my mind has been absent from class since day one for these two classes so it’s a semesters worth of material to cram in such short notice. I know i’m stupid for not getting on top of things but it was because i went through a low point of depression and stopped caring about school work. I’ve talked to my professors and they just told me the grading policy. I don’t really blame them because it’s pretty much my fault. Right now I just want a plan of attack. Should I just focus and pass one final? Attempting to pass two finals is pretty much impossible seeing as I’m so behind.

Even if you don’t study, at least take the exam(s) and get the zero…

How bad are your grades in each class right now? Did you calculate what you need on each final in order to pass the class?

Also, what is your major? I’m guessing it’s not music, because you came into it with no musical knowledge.

I’d take both finals, but devote more time to OChem, as it’s likely more important. You’ve got 5 days until Music and a week until OChem…that’s a significant amount of time to be able to study. Stock up on Red Bull, bear down and hit the books.

If you end up failing both classes hopefully you can use some grade forgiveness and retake them at a later time. Use the experience as a “lesson learned” and don’t make the same mistake going forward.

Definitely take both finals…you never know if the teacher curves at the end. You might end up passing one or both. If you don’t take them, you definitely won’t pass. Also, taking the finals now will give you a better idea of what to expect when you take the class over again.

what is the specific problem you have with ochem? ochem is just straightforward logic and problem solving, don’t bother reading the book’s chapters, head straight for the problems and check back in the book if you don’t know something. do 50 problems per day. at the rate of 1 problem per 5 minutes, this will take you 4 hours.

If your grades drop too low then the college can kick you out or you can lose all your financial aid. Just try your best.
