Pretty sure we are out of luck, but question regarding changing college choice on 5/1

I am almost certain I know the answer to this and there’s nothing to be done, it’s just terribly unfortunate. We just didn’t know, didn’t see/read about how to handle it anywhere. Alas. However, to confirm:

My D changed her mind about what college she was going to on 5/1. Her initial first choice was USC which I believe was the fatal flaw, since they offer university scholarships. Just before 10am PST when she made her final selection, she went in immediately to change it online at NM, away from USC and to a school that does not give any type of NMF scholarship.

As we got a letter today saying she had been awarded the USC 1k/year scholarship, I’m sure she was just too late. Had she changed it the day before even before she decided just in case, or had we been on the East Coast maybe we would have made it before they mailed the letters, but as we have received it now they must have done the mailing before noon their time. Super unfortunate but there it is. I’ll call them to confirm but of course they were closed by the time we got the mail.

My advice, which I’m sure y’all would have known had I looked before, would have been to change it earlier even if unsure to a non-granting college. I just didn’t know to look and D didn’t have any idea from her guidance counselor, etc. If anyone has any other thoughts, please share. Just trying to move on. Will decline award of course, since she declined admission to USC, once we can find out how to do that (don’t see anything on line now.)

What is your concern? the money won’t go anywhere. USC knows your DD’s not attending.

Thanks, figured it out. I had 2 concerns, neither one of which were valid, which I figured out by re-reading tons of posts and then calling them. :0 I was worried that getting the USC scholarship precluded her from being considered from any others, but that’s not the case and those were given out earlier without regard to college (same difference in that D didn’t get anything, but at least it wasn’t b/c we screwed up), and also b/c they notified her HS of it and they made announcements, D was afraid it would be announced even though it wasn’t the case. All is well, thanks for responding!
