Well the first two PREVIEW sessions (15/16 and 17/18) have passed and I thought I would start a thread where people can share their PREVIEW experiences this summer.

Do you still have any question? Something you don't understand? Scheduling? Dorms?

ASMAJ, you are amazing. You know more about UF and Gainesville than anyone I know, even the people who work there! And you're so kind to stay with this board and help the new students and applicants. You can answer any question that comes up, and now with this thread, you're volunteering for more. Thank you for all you've done. We're forever grateful.

Thank you g8rmom, I try my best to stay informed. The thread was for anyone to answer questions. I might not be posting as much soon because I am applying to grad school this summer and its a very long and tedious process. Also I am taking a vacation, to somewhere out of the country so thats also going to take up my time, but I will try to ask questions as much as possible.

I went to the may 17-18 Preview and all i have to say is that the people there (mainly the students) are extremely helpful and pleasant. Its a lot to do in 2 days so expect to be on your feets moving around for about 12 hours each day. Also your schedule will not be ideal (atleast period wise) but you can expect to get the courses you want. Everyone is helpful to an unbelieveable extent and very very friendly. some of the presentations are bit pointless and boring, but you will get a lot done in a very short period of time (i mean i set a up a new wachovia account, picked my meal plan, defferred my bookstore payment, got a parking decal, got my gator 1 central UFID all in under 30 minutes). and as eveyone will tell you choose whatever interest you and let no one stir you in a direction you do not want to go (course and major wise). The only thing i can say is do not go pre health unless you are prepared for a lot of work and many years (20+) of research, study, and science (trust me you will understand when you get there).

I remember Preview. It was a TON of information in two days and you're on overload by the end of the second day. However, it was very helpful, and you are now an Offical Gator registered for classes at UF :). Aside from that, I want to respond to your Pre-Health warning. Did some Asian guy talk to you guys? And then scared the living **** out of you? I went to that session when I went to Preview last year and let me tell you, I left feeling useless. I'm pretty sure the Pre-Health session was in other words the same as Pre-Med. The man is very intimidating, but do not let anyone steer you away from your goals and dreams. Yes, any medical profession is tough, but if you want, go get it. It is a lot of years of work, 4 years undergrad, 4 years in medical school, and depending on your specializiation between 3-10 years of Residency. I seriously thinks he exagerrates more than he should, but he really is a good guy, he just scares you more than you should.

Hey I just wanted to ask a few questions. I am a marketing major and I was wondering if any of you know of some easy electives for that major. Also, do we have to sign up for a parking permit before we go to preview? Thanks!

Out of my three years here at UF, I haven't gone to visit him. I have had multiple friends visit him and change their majors and futures plans. His philosophy is that if you don't have a 4.0 and 35 mcat then you wont get into medical school and thats not right. There are many students that get into medical that are not perfect. If you want premed advise, go to SDN @ www.studentdoctor.com and visit the forums. They are much more helpful than he is.

What classes did you end up picking? Who was your preview leader?

Advice to everyone, don't pick 1st (7:25am) or 2nd (8:30am) period classes unless you are sure you can wake up for them. And trust me its different than in high school. In high school there were consequences if you missed class, so there was incentive to go, but in college the professor could careless (unless its a small class) if you go. Also your parents were there to wake you up, but in college, you are your own motivation to wake up.

I think when you got your confirmation letter about Preview through mail, that little packet was supposed to have a paper decal for you to use while at Preview. Or did you mean if you get your actual Decal you'll be using during your semester at UF before Preview? That one you get at Preview.

Also, I second ASMAJ's advice. My friend had 7:25AM classes everyday her Fall semester and she barely went and not going to class can definitely hinder your grade, depending on what class it is. I had a 9:35AM class my Fall semester, and I couldn't wake up for that. So if you know you're not a morning person, then pick afternoon classes, enjoy the privileges of being able to make your own schedule.

They will have seats (students and parents are separated for most of the time), but they will be bored out of their minds, so I suggest they borrow your ipod or something. My parents didn't go.

Asmaj, I ended up getting CHM2045 (and the lab), MAC2311, ENC1101, and GEA1000. Oh and i did pick one of my classes for 2nd period because I am a morning person and getting up at 7- 7 30 is no prob for me. for Summer B I am taking ANT 2301, SLS 1102, and MAC1147. I have a question for you as well. I am taking precal with trig right now so how hard do you think MAC1147 would beover the summer. I know they advise against it but i am in it right now so i figure that taking it over the summer is the only way i can keep my fall schedule the way it is. Also becaue i missed placing out of MAC1147 by 1 question I was advised to go to thre advisor for my college and try to get them to let me skip it and take Stat instead. how likely do you think I will be in getting out of MAC1147.

I would still have them dress comfortably, flipflops are always a good idea. What I meant to say was that if this is not their first time doing something like this, then they will be really bored. My parents didn't go because they already went through this process with an older sibling, so there was no need to go again. But if your parents haven't been to a college orientation for UF, then I think they should go, they may learn something. I can't guarantee it will be fun, but they should be alright. Sorry for the confusion, I should have clarified.

It was my mom's first time going and she got bored. So whenever she got bored she'd walk out and go buy stuff at the bookstore. I think that's a good thing seeing that a lot of those things she bought were for me! :) I wore flip flops the whole weekend and they were fine.
