all we get is a covered shuttle cost from the airport to campus…

^haha true. But still better than catching a taxi, definitely.

Oh well. Even if they don’t pay for my flight, I was planning to pay for it anyways. It Wouldn’t be that great of a loss compared to the experience I will have there and the people I will meet there.

I was denied by the Questbridge program.

Um, I don’t know. I feel like now maybe I misread the context of my letter.

Some schools, including Williams, do cover transportation and other costs related to Previews/admitted student days for a few admitted students. I’m guessing the offer is made to some of those who can’t otherwise afford it, especially if the student hasn’t visited the school before. I imagine there will be less offers to cover these costs as schools struggle with budget issues.

If you do not receive this offer, it isn’t because Williams loves you any less than someone who does get their way paid. If they didn’t love you, they wouldn’t have admitted you! Enjoy your acceptance to an amazing school!

^ Completely right.

Let’s just enjoy the fact that we’re all heading down to Williams soon!

I don’t think you misread it, I think you just got a magical letter that we didn’t haha
Are you a Tyng scholar perhaps?

and oh, whatever, what will happen is what will happen. I’ll just have to tutor a few more times to cover the flight fee; when I think about the fact that they admitted me and gave me a chance to attend Williams, I ultimately don’t really mind paying $120 for my flight fee. AND YAY FOR PREVIEWS!!! WHO’S EXCITED??? Who’s gonna be there? Fess up! :D

I’m not a Tyng scholar, either.

And, I’m considering whether or not I would come off as obnoxious if I wore purple for the duration of the trip. Haha!

padiddle, don’t worry. i received the same thing in my acceptance packet - they’re covering all of my travel expenses, overnight accommodations, and meals. i RSVP’ed the travel coordinator as soon as i received my acceptance packet (i was an early write). i’m not a Tyng scholar, either.

hmmm…it’s still odd. If it was based on money/finaid reasons, my Williams fin. aid package was 45K+ (at other schools it was actually more) yet I received no such letter. Oh well.

They are covering meals for all of us, right? And I believe I still get to sleep in a dorm…

AHHHHH I’m so excited at the thought of taking classes though! History Department, here I come…

Padiddle–do you live very far away from Williams’ campus? Because sometimes they will fly out people who couldn’t reasonably get there by car.

Whatever, congrats to all Williams acceptees!

Got my acceptance folder today – no free trip for me Oh well, I’ll still try to find a way to make it out.

Bleh, round trip plane ticket was about $300, and a one-way bus ticket from MIT CPW + night in a hotel + one-way ticket back home was about the same. Looks like no Previews for me :(

goldenratiophi - where are you thinking you’ll need to stay in a hotel? Can’t you stay on campus with a student? I bet there’s a way to make it work (i.e. more affordable).

I didn’t see this thread!

@ limetime: I am absolutely going to Williams Previews. I actually don’t have an excuse, because I only live an hour away… and therefore can just drive there!

To everyone: are your parents coming to Previews? My parents want to come, and there are a lot of parent events, but I’d rather focus on meeting people and having an awesome time rather than babysitting my parents (if you know what I mean).

I think meals are covered, it would be awesome if they were!
And I really want to stay in a dorm, to get the real Williams experience for a couple days.
I’m SO EXCITED!
I didn’t get any Tyng Scholar thing, I saw that Ephemeral2 got it (he seems like a ridiculous applicant though).
I’m actually very nervous about financial aid… Williams hasn’t sent me anything regarding that yet, and I really hope they’ll give me a decent package, because not being able to afford Williams would be devastating.

^ I think after you register via email with Susan Clairmont (is that right?) you get assigned to a dorm? Maybe? I hope they assign us to dorms because a hotel would just feel weird.

Yes, of course it’s dorms.

I RSVPed to Sarah Varnos. Yeah, I think everybody gets put up in the dorms. And my mom is most def coming with me from NJ.

I’m seriously so excited for this. Oh my God.

I still have to RSVP, I should get on that haha.
The person who you have to email is named Susan Clairmont, I don’t know who Sarah varnos is.

Me too man, I can’t wait to go to Previews.
It’s going to be EPIC.

I’m not an early write. I am a Questbridge finalist who didn’t get matched. I live in Central California, so it costs a couple hundred dollars to fly out to MA. I contacted their admissions office and asked them if they had any funds to help get to Williams, and they agreed to pay for the entire thing. Only thing is, I have to be there from Saturday, and they choose when I fly there. I have an overnight flight. The details aren’t completely ironed out yet, but I’ll be at Previews!

i am in a similar situation to haewon, from SoCal
