If one has been accepted to a school (in my case USC), and opt to go to another (in my case UCSD) instead, and then decide to try to transfer the next year or two...does the previous acceptance affect the admissions at all? (i.e. Will the admissions office be all offended that I didn't go and reject me, or will they be like, we've accepted you before so we'll accept you again?)

(This is providing that my GPA, EC's, etc. all stay the same and/or improve.)

My sister was accepted to Northwestern but decided to go to Rutgers. After a year she was accepted back to Northwestern and is now about to Graduate this year.

chances are USC will accept you again.
you should mention in your “additional info” section that you had been accepted at USC before and you are now confident that USC is your first choice school.

i guess a little bit. its a commitment issue which may impair your future good standing. but you stil can fix it. try to persuade that USC is your best choice now but dont mention you rejected USC several years ago.

I’ve read somewhere that applying to a school your freshmen year helps with transfer admissions at the same school and that those who previously applied take precedence… is this true?

I think it depends on the school. I have always heard that Yale, for example, does not look favorably on those applying for a second time. I would say the rationale behind that is if someone was not fit for acceptance the first time around, what difference would a year or so make? On the other hand, applying a second time shows commitment and passion for a particular school, and if you have improved from the prior year then who knows…I sure hope that’s the case! haha

Im planning to apply to Fordham in 1 year. Im a freshman now. My case is different, i was accepted but i couldnt go because i simply could not afford it. Proof is in the school i currently attend now, which is a city school and im covered by some minor scholarships that i have. However im scared because though my stats in high school were good…due to the honest fact i could not attend Fordham, i did very poorly my first semester (3.3ish) and even though im doing better now, i dont know if i can ever make up for that.

To OP hopefully they will accept you again, because i hope i get in again.

I think if you have the stats to get in, most schools may not even recognize that you have applied before, and if they do I don’t believe it will factor into the decision.

What if you were originally offered scholarship money? Do you think you could still get it if your grades were the same or higher? Or would they think that they don’t have to offer you anything, as you realized you made a mistake in your college selection?
