The recent post on the andoveradmissions Instagram said that this was the lowest admit rate year at 13%… BUt I remember hearing that it has been lower before. Also, my interviewer told me that they had almost 3,000 applicants this year, which puts them at around 390 spots, which just doesn’t add up because they normally accept around a little over 200.
I find that the admit rate percentages seem to never add up. And the admit rates have gone down while the applicant numbers have remained relatively consistent. I think the Gateway apps --just like college–have made the admit rates “artificially” lower
I suspect that’s ~3000 applicants across all grades.
I think the admit rate has been around 14% recently, so makes sense that 13% is the lowest ever. Out of ~3000 apps, they must be making ~400 admit offers. If the yield is ~80% then, ~320 will accept. Based on previous years, roughly 200 of these will be juniors - the rest will be lowers / uppers / seniors / PGs.
This is Andover admission numbers posted on their website. Probably from last year.
Completed Applications: 2,981
Admitted: 430
Matriculated: 347
Those numbers translate to an admit rate of 14.4% and a yield of 80.7%. It sounds like there is a slight increase in the #of applications this year and they intend to admit a smaller class (may be due to unexpected over enrollment last year). If they admit 400ish that’d leave the admit rate at 13% range. What doesn’t add up?
Oh lord that is a small percent… drowning in anxiety here
Fingers crossed for you!
oh true, I COMPLETELY forgot that it was for all grades. Thank you for explaining!!
This whole thread is just giving me a panic attack :))
You are welcome @katrina571. I’d suggest everyone to manage expectations and take a “default position” of not being admitted because 8-9 out 10 won’t be. You’d rather want a pleasant surprise than a surprising disappointment… Good luck to you all!
