primary/alternate

did you apply primary/alternate

ill start

primary-cals
alternate-engineering

primary - engineering
alternate - cals

primary: arts and sciences (biological sciences)
alternate: CALS (biological sciences)

primary: hotel
alternate: NO ALTERNATE YEAHHH HOTEL OR BUST

primary- human ec(human development)
alternate -cals(bio sciences)

primary- cals (biometry and statistics)
alternate- human ecology (pam)

CAS, no alternate

CALS- atmo. sci Primary

No Alternate... CALS or bust

primary - human ecology (human bio, health, and soc)
alternate - a&s (bio and soc)

is it not counterintuitive to apply to secondary choice if you apply primarily to Human Ecology because wouldn't you be making the distinct statement that you are committing yourself to the unique, exclusive Human Ecology approach that you cannot get anywhere else in the school?

Primary- ILR
Alternate- CALS for Communication

Another CALS/ENGINE.

Primary - HOTEL!!!
Alternate - nothing

HOTELIES STAND STRONG!!!! even if we fail in the end.... haha

ILR

no alternate!

dr. jd, i think its fine since i chose biological sciences in cals and it covers everything that can be learned in human development in human ecology. Biological sciences is soo broad that it incorporates both approaches.
As for carolineee144, the two majors are almost the same thing

Primary: HOTEL, yo
Alternate: Is it wrong to feel good about not having one? Hahaa

not at all son of a tree.... In fact, i am feeling bad about applying to 2 since it might mess up my chances.....?

ILR

No ALT

Primary : Engineering
Alternate: Too lazy to write another essay ;P

Rohansingh2--it won't hurt your chances to apply to two schools--it makes sense for some majors and programs, not so much for others. This is the first time this primary/alternate option has been offered so Cornell isn't exactly sure how it will work, but when I was there in October, my son asked the CAS admissions rep how he could simultaneously be convincing in his essays about wanting to be in CAS and COE (computer science major). The CAS rep said they realized when they offered this option that students would have to approach their essays as if each college were their top choice. He said that at least in CAS, they would only read the CAS essay and they would not likely read the other one (they don't need to make more work for themselves). And, if not accepted to the primary college, they have the choice to send the application to the alternate choice. I assume then that the alternate choice would read only their essay. I wouldn't worry about it.
