Primary Source of Water

At home, I have a Brita water filtration pitcher that I put into the refrigerator to allow me access to cold, clean drinking water when I am thirsty.

What is the primary venue for drinking for at Cornell? Are there water coolers in the hallways of the dorms? Are there water fountains? Is the water clean?

Bottled water tastes a little too gross for my personal likings.

there are water fountains on the ground floor of dorms but not upstairs/hallways…

i recommend investing in a desk water cooler. you can fill it up with tap water in the kitchen :(

That Brita pitcher sounds like a good idea…

How expensive are they?

brita pitcher is a hassle (i find)…it takes like 10 minutes just to fill up and it’s only 2qts?

i drink more than 2qts of water per day…

i currently have a brita pitcher and what i do is buy a pack of bottled water and when i drink the original bottled water i just refill it from water fountains on campus or water from the brita filter.

it would really just be easier to buy one of those mini water hot/cold dispensers. freshman year my suitemates chipped in for one. everyone in the floor would use it.

I use brita filterer. works fine.

1) use the water fountain in the hallways
2) get a brita filter like everyone said and fill it with water from the kitchen sink.
3) buy bottled water each week at nasties.

But where would I keep the Brita water pitcher? Is there a refrigerator I can put it in?

Most students have a mini-fridge in their dorm room

Ah ok, any idea how much it costs?

It depends where you buy/rent it…I paid $60 for mine.

are you flying or driving down mariam?

I’m thinking of buying those huge watter bottle packs at BJs or Costco and then storing a few in my minifridge each week for cold water…it’s cheaper than buying individual bottles all the time.

I will be flying down. So I don’t think bringing a mini-fridge with me would be a good idea.

you can rent the minifridge through cornell for a low cost.

How bout a microfridge? Those were mentioned in Cornell’s Housing “What to bring” schpiel. Despite the microwave on top, are they okay to bring?

What’s wrong with regular old tap water?

i just get a brita filter and go to the bathroom and fill it up…

this is such a random question

uh no not really. tap water is ok. but can taste REALLY different if you’re in a different city.

Tap water does vary tremendously from city to city (Ithaca’s is okay in my experience compared to other places).

Water filters are the way to go. They will save you money and will produce less waste. I did not have a refrigerator in which to store them, but I didn’t mind having warm water. Buying bottled water becomes expensive, especially if you drink a lot of water (I used to go through more than two bottles a day!).
