Oh my goodnessssss!!! So miracles do happen because I got a call about an hour ago from Princeton University, missed it, called back half an hour ago and was told I am off the waitlist! I absolutely did not expect to hear from them so late and was actually afraid when I was calling them back that it would be a personal phone rejection (OK, so the odds of that were unlikely but so were the odds of getting off the waitlist this late!). The admissions officer who I had corresponded with before then let me know that I had been accepted! Thank you so much @aymiusa for being so lovely throughout this process and I have until Monday to decide and hear about my FA offer but I am so stoked!

Congratulations!

@vanessa123 Ahhhhhhhhh!!! Congrats! Isn’t it just amazing what happens sometimes? Aw, thanks, I enjoy giving pep talks and I was hoping for the best for all of us fellow CC’ers who have suffered through the agony of the waitlist, and I’m so glad it turned out amazing for you! I can’t wait to meet you on campus if you decide to go and feel free to PM me!
So excited! :)

@TigerInCambridge Thank you!

@aymiusa It is absolutely amazing and I am so excited but also nervous because now I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to get to Princeton and all the other things to do over summer before then! I will PM you later because I just need to wrap my head around all of this and may just need your help to do so as this still feels like a dream!

I wish everyone else on here the best of luck and for future applicants on the waitlist who might see, my advice is to stay hopeful (while focussing on the school you end up accepting!) and be persistent!

It’s kind of embarrassing now, but when on the waitlist, I sent a total of four emails to Princeton. My first e-mail was in mid-April and was an update of recent activities confirming Princeton was my no. 1 school and my second e-mail was in early May (similar to the first). My third e-mail was in early June and was a enquiry on the waitlist progress and my fourth (and final!) email was last Sunday (22nd June) to ask whether there were any realistic chances left of getting off the waitlist since we only had a week left.

It sounds like overload compared to people here who got off the waitlist without providing a single update or e-mailing the school about their interest in Princeton, but if you know you definitely want to go, don’t be afraid to tell them! I didn’t call obsessively (I made a grand total of one phone call to Princeton at the very beginning of May to ask if the waitlist was being used) but I let them know in a polite yet firm way that I thought Princeton was right for me.

Since my deadline to reply is Monday, I imagine that I may be among the last wave of admissions and frankly, I think that I was admitted because the admissions officers knew that I was a sure bet and would accept their offer. Remember: the waitlist is generally used to fill demographic gaps in the freshman class BUT admissions officers also want to admit people who they think are likely to accept since it makes it easier for them to fill up the incoming class. My admittance is literally three days before the end of June so I imagine that a large contributing factor to my acceptance is that I proved I wanted to go to Princeton and that made me stand out beyond the other amazingly qualified waitlistees they have, as this late in the game, it’s hard to entice people away from the colleges they already committed to!

Obviously, this is purely speculation since I have no idea why the admissions committee decided to admit me (and frankly, you should never look a gift horse in the mouth), but I hope my advice helps someone in the future :-)

Also, just like @wondertime’s daughter did, I was accepted with a very generous financial aid package despite the late admittance (about 90% off fees per year), was called on my mobile before receiving an e-mail follow up and will be receiving a package from Princeton in the post (although I have been told that this will most likely not arrive until after Monday’s deadline to accept as I am international and post takes a while to get here!). I am not a legacy, I live in the the UK and I applied for Economics with certificate in Creative Writing and honestly, don’t really have any special extracurriculars and received average standardised test scores!

Good luck everyone (God, I talk a lot.)

@vanessa123 this is amazing!! You deserve it so so so much I am thrilled for you. HAVE FUN!!
