Princeton 2019 SCEA Hopefuls Thread

Thanks guys! Ah, less anxiety, what a great feeling.

It’s almost like playing duplicate bridge. If you have a strong hand, you are expected to take more tricks; if you have a weak hand, you are expected to take less. Princeton essentially wants to create a ceteris paribus model of your achievements; it evaluates how well you’ve played your hand, independent of how good your cards are.

I just realized when I’m wondering about the answer to a question about Princeton, I look for @Ambitious19‌ 's posts. It’s interesting that they have data from so many regions, that sounds a lot more complicated than I thought.

@PrincetonPls - 6/9… :frowning: I guess not. I thought my scores were all right, but I don’t think my ACT translated very well to SAT.

I do hope AP classes are taken into account. I have some B’s but have gotten 5’s on all 4 AP tests I’ve taken, which isn’t common at my school.

That’s good news…my school has a lot of kids who don’t take the exams very seriously

There’s a lot of variation within my school district and even school itself…there are some abysmal schools in my district and some amazing schools, and past the top 5% in my school the level of academic achievement/extracurriculars drops sharply, with a few exceptions. If they consider me against kids from Huge Comprehensive Rich High School just a few miles away, for example, I’m doomed, my small magnet school has zero funding whatsoever.

@hopefulperson‌ thanks for the encouragement :)

Unfortunately for me, being in the Bay Area and surrounded by ~10 people applying SCEA as qualified (or more so)…Ah well. I’m sure we will all do well regardless of whether or not we get in.

How many students (class of 2017) got deferred? I can’t find the exact numbers  I think that the deferral rate for class of 2018 was very high because of technical problems (Common App). So I believe that this year’s deferral rate will be similar to the one for class of 2017.

@cromptu‌ ivysuccess.com; the deferral rate’s still very high

@justlyfe8‌ You’re right; thanks for the statistics! I wish everyone on this wonderful thread gets in :)

Does Princeton do likely letters?

From December, 2010:
http://dailyprincetonian.com/news/2010/12/getting-in-athletes-road-to-admission/

whydoitry: I KNOW RIGHT :frowning: So many amazing applicants here!!

ringwraith10: I haven’t heard of anyone except for athletes receiving likely letters.

I am from WV and applied to PU SCEA. Does anyone think/know if being from a state that normally does not have many applicants to PU would increase my chances of getting in? Last year, there was one student from WV who was admitted, but of course I don’t know how many applied. Any thoughts on this?

@PUHopeful2019 It’s difficult to say as there are always a few states that seem to be “over-represented” (NJ, NY, CA for example) and always a couple states where no one was admitted.

http://admission.princeton.edu/sites/admission/files/map-full2018.gif

This trend might indicate that Princeton is more interested in individuals and what they may bring to the school than in adhering to geographical soft quotas. However I don’t think it’s a negative to come from a less-represented state if you are otherwise a viable applicant.

I think that map counts only people who matriculated from each state. There might have been people who got in but did not choose Princeton.

just a few more days… you guys mentally and emotionally prepared? lol

@ScienceDaddy no

ScienceDaddy: AHH I’m so jealous of all the Harvard SCEA’ers today…I just want to know now!!! I feel mentally and emotionally ready.

All I know is that I’m grabbing Chipotle either way. Hopefully it’ll be a celebratory burrito rather than a consolation burrito.
