I'd just like to see how strict Princeton is with word limits. I'm doing Princeton's own application, not the commonapp one.... so there's a long 500 and short 300 essay.

for those who got in, could you state your word counts here? thanks so much.

I as I wrote in an earlier thread, my long essay was about 750 words and my short one about 500.

thanks! anyone else?

295 for the short essay. 549 for my common app one.

hmm, I think I may need to cut down my short one. It's running at 500 words right now.

do you think 480 is ok for the 300 worder?

Yeah, I'd like to know also....

I think 500ish words is OKAY as long as there is a reason for it. I think the P-ton app asks for 2 500 word essays.

Make sure EVERY WORD COUNTS though!

No, the Princeton app asks for one 500 word and one 300 word. The summer experience essay has no limit but my counselor suggested around 200-250.

I talked to a traveling admission's member about the summer essay and he basically said they don't want you to write an essay. They prefer more of a 'list-like' response that says what you did and explain it if need be. He stressed that they want to know WHAT you did rather than trying to inflate something with unnecessary prose. He said, "Afterall, that's what the essays are for."
