I've decided to go to Princeton. I found a great adviser and the program I'm going into is highly ranked and of course the school overall is second to none (ok maybe Harvard). But I'm having some misgivings about the social scene and how they treat graduate students.

I've heard Princeton students are incredibly shallow, focusing alot on how someone dresses and how much money their parents make. I've also heard it's full of recruited athletes and rich legacies. Not to mention, it's very WASPy, elitist, and DRUNK. Also, I'm nervous about the lack of graduate student socializing.

On the academic side, I heard Princeton focuses almost exclusively on undergrads and the graduate students get little attention. They're almost like second-class citizens.

Anyone attend there now or know someone who attends Princeton? Can you provide some thoughts on the above?

To the extent that an entire school shares a stereotyped culture, undergraduates tend to share it much more than graduate students. So even if Princeton undergraduates are shallow recruited athletes and rich legacies, the graduate students are much less likely to be, and you probably won't be spending much time with undergraduates anyway.

As for the undergrad focus, you'll be focused on by administrators in your program and professors in your program, which is what matters for graduate students. What need do grad students have to be focused on by the university's administration?

I've also heard similiar things about P-ton grads having a lousy social life. I would just talk to the grad students in your program to figure out what's really going on.

it depends what kind of person you are... and remmeber the dinky's right there to take you to the train station to NYC :)
