Princeton area schools?

What are the reputations of Lawrenceville, Hun Pennington and Princeton Day School? any feedback most appreciated.

I dont know much about princeton day school but Lawrenceville is very good. A top ten boarding school probably. Hun, and penjington are solid schools and have good reputations.

i've heard penningtons really easy, and not quite worth your money, hun's got really great sports, and princeton day schools got great academics and meh sports. and of course lawrencevilles a well know boarding school, with solid everything if you take advantage of it, but that's just reputation wise, find some current students if you want a solid opinion.

Pennington had an awesome revisit day. The students and faculty were welcoming and friendly. The school is very small but it seems to be up and coming. IMHO.

Hun and Pennington are similar in that they both have about 30% boarders, 70% day, and they both have learning support programs for about a third of the students. It is a mix of high achieving kids along with those who are struggling. This creates a nice environment, less pressure on the high achievers than top schools---less competition, more nurturing, etc.

Is Peddie in the "princeton area"?
Peddie is a great school

I go to Lawrenceville and I think it's a great school; in my opinion by far the best in the Princeton area, though Peddie, Pennington, and PDS are also quite good.

I wouldn't say Peddie's near Princeton, tough it's about a 30 minute drive from Lawrenceville by bus. Lawrenceville is about 5 minutes away from Princeton by bus, and many students visit the town on the weekend.

they are all good schools. i went to pds a million years ago - 70's - teachers mostly good, athletics good, kids are (were) all over the map in terms of effort put into their academics, but the school teachers are there if the kids want to do the work. It's a little hard coming into that school in 9th grade when most of the kids have been together since as early as K. If you are a public school kid, it can also be a social adjustment as you are now hanging out with children of primarily (but definitely not exclusively) privileged backgrounds. Some kids come from Trenton and other nearby, but out of town areas, and I always thought that was a hindrance for them in terms of getting the most out of their connection with the overall class - t wasn't as easy for them to join in on spur of the moment stuff and they tended to carpool and hence hang together. Just something to think about.

Alternatively, boarding school that exists only as 9-12 grades is a great equalizer to all comers.

peddie is in hightstown, nj. about 30 minutes due east of Princeton and Lawrenceville, near NJ Turnpike exit 8. Not that you see it or hear it.

I go to Lawrenceville.

And by far, Lawrenceville is the only top 10 Boarding School in New Jersey by IvyLeague entry ranking. Peddie is 22 last time i checked. Its pretty good though.

I think Peddie might be 14th or something now but I don't know if it really is in the Princeton area. They recentley have gotten huge amounts of money and almost every building on campus seems to be new. Academically, Lawrenceville is the "old guard" and probably still has the more "prestigious program, but Peddie is still very strong academically (they have somewhat low- about 70% going in- SSATs but very high SATs coming out) and they also have some great sports and it's very much rising in the ranks thanks to all the recent endowment money.

justbeingme -- I think the average SAT score for Peddie that is posted in boardingschoolreview is incorrect. Here is what is listed:

Average SAT Score 2000
SAT range (25th-75th percentile) 1720 - 2030

I think it's highly unlikely that there could be an average SAT score of 2000, but a range of 1720-2030 plus an average SSAT of 70%. When we considered Peddie a few years ago, their average SAT was around 1850. I think their current average is still similar to that.

I know a guy who went to Hun, but transferred to Lawrenceville in his sophmore year. He said Lawrenceville to be a much better school than Hun.

According to PrepReview:
Lawrenceville - 10
Peddie - 14
With Hun and Princeton Day being lower than 30.

Probably, Lawrenceville is a bit better than the others, but they're all pretty nice schoools

Peddie is part of the Princeton-area private schools along with Stuart, L'ville, Hun, PDS, Pennington. The average SAT last year was 1330/1970...and the acceptance rate is about 22-25% I understand. I happen to work with AP a lot and Peddie's AP results were really impressive. George is on the other side of the river but not too far away. Peddie is 10 miles from Princeton according to google maps.

Here's the bottom line:

L'ville is one of the countrty's great schools and has been for a long time.
The school is legendary (fif recommends you read Owen Johnson's "The Lawrenceville Stories"). Probably the prettiest of all prep school campuses.

Peddie was for a very long time at best a second tier school which jumped significantly with the 100m Annenberg gift. fif is still not real impressed with the campus, but there is no denying that Peddie has come along way -- the Larries are not amused by this in the least.

Hun used to be a joke (sorry but it's true). They seem to have improved greatly, but it is still not much of a boarding school.

Princeton Day is one of the best private day schools in the country, period.

FTR, fif grew up in Princeton, went to Princeton Country Day, then Princeton Day School when it was established with the merger with Miss Fine's School, and was denied admission to Lawrenceville as a day student (bummer).
