Princeton at first sight

Just out of curiosity, do any of you remember when you first heard of Princeton?

If I can recall correctly, I first heard about it from The Cosby Show. Sondra, the eldest of Cosby's TV daughters, went there. Since she was so smart, I figured it must have been a school for smart people. Then I discovered the Ivy League and found out it was a school for REALLY smart people. Well, I revisited The Cosby Show this past summer on Nick-at-Nite, and boy, I developed a crush on that Sondra character (yes, a character. I know...). Because she went to P'ton, I decided to look up some info about it to see what was so great about it (this also stemmed from it being Carlton's dream school on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"). Yeah, good thing I did.

So yeah, my love of Princeton initially stemmed from a crush on a TV character. Any other stories?

I don't remember hearing about first, but I sure remember what it felt like to walk on campus...it was love at first sight. I just thought, "You know, I could live here for four years and be the happiest I've ever been in my life."

I liked it at first sight as well. It was also the first Ivy I had ever visited... I wondered if the others were going to be the same. They were all great but I really loved Princeton.

I don't remember when I first heard about Princeton...my parents went there, so I've heard them talking about it since birth. I do remember the first time I went there though. I marched in the P-rade and drank milk punch at Colonial Club with my dad. It was awesome. Princeton reunions are crazy and intense. Hopefully, I'll someday be able to go to my own.

that's crazy philntex! i think i first heard of princeton on "Fresh Prince" too - or at least that's the soonest i remember hearing the word! But like Keb, it was the minute i set foot on campus that i fell in love with it - all the ivy, the stretching lawns, the robin's-egg-nest-blue statues, the Tiger (i think we're all the Year of the Tiger - chinese astrology:)) and the way it was 'moderness steeped in history'. sighs I don't know, I used to think it was corny the way they say, "you get a warm fuzzy feeling when you're at The School for you." But with me it was so true about Pton!

You guys make me long to visit Princeton...

sigh, it's a dreamland I tell you.

See! "Fresh Prince" was an education show ;) And I can't wait to visit the campus. It's only a month away now! I can feel the excitement building now. I really hope I get that feeling you guys are talking about when I finally see the campus with mine own eyes :)

Oh you will love it, I assure you

I'm sure I've known about Princeton (Harvard, Yale, etc.) for a long time from movies or TV.

But I fell in love w/Princeton when I first visited...so it was love at first sight!

philntex will get a different perspective than most of us though, he'll get the "winter paradise" feel lol

Most def! I only wish I were going at night. Snow AND starts? gyrates

I definitely visited in the winter too, Philntex - it was beautiful! I went over our school's Midwinter break last year (in late Feb). I'm sure you'll fall even more in love with the school.

omg stars....I don't ever see stars anymore.
New York = pollution, tall buildings, and too much artificial lighting.
If we get in, we should definately lay on the grassy lawns at night and watch stars...

Ohh that would be fun... Princeton's probably so much cleaner than it is here

Clean and safe...
wait, what are you talking about? How is Oregon not clean?? Geez

Well, I've known about Princeton since I was a tiny tot, but I didn't fall in love with the school until I visited and began exploring its writing program. (Hollinghurst just won the Booker Prize! Oh. My. God.) Before, I used to be a Brown and Stanford advocate.

That sounds awesome, zant! We'll make it a date if we get in. And c_j, I'm interested in the writing program, too. If I were to get in, it would be among my certificate options, for sure.

Yea Princeton only has the best writing program of any university.
I want to take Cornel West's class if I get in. I'm listening to him speak this thursday.

Woohoo! Another writer. What type of writing are you interested in, philntex? Fiction or poetry? Are you submitting a writing portfolio with your application?
