Princeton at first sight

c_j, I used to be a poet (well, I guess technically I still am), but in recent years I've become entrenched in fiction writing. It's so much fun creating an entire universe of characters and settings. I would have submitted a writing portfolio, but I submitted a score as my arts supplement, so I figured I'd be sending too much if I sent a writing portfolio on top of that. Did you? I like finding other writers.

And I love Cornel West! He was on Real Time with Bill Maher several weeks ago, and I was like: "I could be seeing you a year from now!" He's awesome. And hilarious.

philntex, there's no harm in submitting two supplements. I mailed my visual arts portfolio last week. (Art has taken up a significant amount of my time for the past eight years.) The creative writing portfolio will go to a completely different department to be received, which is namely, well, the writing department. So, yes, I am submitting a 6,000 word short story I've been working on for the past five months along with a resume outlining various writing programs and authors I have studied under.

Wow, I didn't know that. Well that sucks. But I think that your experience will definitely be a plus in the ad process.

OT: Have you tried participating in the November Novel-Writing Contest? I think I will this year. I'm excited.

Well, you still have a week to put old writing together to send with your app. I'm going to be polishing my portfolio right up until Oct. 31. Yikes!

Haha. I've thought about the novel contest, but I know I won't be able to finish. I have too many things going on that month, both in the writing realm and out. In November, I'm due to take two workshops taught by Dave Eggers and his wife Vendela Vida. I'm bummed right now because during my last workshop with Eggers, he said he'd write me a recommendation for ED, but apparently he doesn't have time anymore because he's running around the country to help with the Kerry campaign. ( :( ) He also said that I should write a fan letter to Gabe Hudson in the Princeton writing department who he's friends with, but I'm not sure if I will. I'm too shy.

Now, now, c_j. Shy and the admissions process don't go together. Do you want to get into Princeton? YES! Do you want to experience the awesomeness that is their creative writing program? YES! Does it smell like feet in here? YES!

SO GO GET 'EM, KID!!!

lol
philntex, you're so funny

Haha. Well, we'll see. :)

Anyway, here's to hoping we both get into Princeton and can take fiction courses together next year! I get so excited whenever I meet anyone else who's interested in writing. There's too few of us, you know?

Precisely. I would be so excited to take an actual creative writing course. High school English just hasn't been doing it for me, sadly...
