do u think i can get into princeton if i have a 3.61 gpa (honors classes though lol), 27 act (havent taken sat)??? im class president, a jv cheerleader, and a member of several other clubs (gsa, sadd, sos, interact) and choir/glee club?

also i was hoping i could get recruited for cheerleading!!! :o)

any opinions?

(i’m also considereing harvard, yale, standford, and some easy ones like cornell/dartmouth.)

Your chances are extremely low. 27 ACT is way underpar for Princeton (unless you are a URM or legacy, and even then it’s pushing it), 3.6 GPA is quite low (even if you are in honors classes, which in fact would boost your GPA), and your ECs are minimal and nothing special. I don’t know how much Princeton is looking to recruit cheerleaders, and even that wouldn’t be possible if you are only on JV.

Harvard, Yale, and Stanford are also almost impossible for you to get into. And your chance is not any better at Dartmouth or Cornell, how dare you call those easy ones. Dartmouth and Cornell are high reaches for everyone, and you have little to no chance at getting into those either. You need to look much lower.

Your GPA and ACT are really killing you… Also, your lack of leadership doesn’t help (class president isn’t leadership). Honestly, the only way I can see you getting in is if you get recruited for cheerleading, but even then it’d be difficult because of your GPA and ACT.

And I wouldn’t consider Cornell and Dartmouth to be ‘easy’… I’m not so sure your chances there would be great either.

Check through this thread to see who was accepted this year.

WOW! those people are good! but im really a really good cheerleader and i think i sorta got screwed over (the coach doesnt like my family) so i was put on JV. also, how is class presiedent not leadership?!?!

if i need to look “much lower,” what schools would u recommend loudphantom

I don’t know anything about recruiting so I can’t help you there.

Class President isn’t unique. With you as class president, how many other class presidents are there in the nation? It also tends to be a popularity contest, though that’s beside the point.

its not a popularity contest, i got elected by the people, for the people. i rlly think if i could like meet the adcoms if thats possible, or even for my interviewer, and show off my cheer abilities they’d see i dont deserve to be on just JV. and really i should’ve been captain but the coach hates me and my fam for no reason well technically her bf cheated on her w/ me but i digress.

There are lots of presidents that get elected for the people, by the people. It still happens in every high school, just like there’s a star football player in most.

Everyone would love to personally meet with the adcoms, but that just isn’t going to happen. I’m not saying you have no chance, but they’re extremely low. Try to bring up your ACT score and your GPA needs to be fabulous next year.

And again, I advise you to look at the stats of not only the people who got accepted, but also rejected and waitlisted.

Honestly, I’m not trying to be rude or break your hope. It’s fine to apply to these schools, but you need to have tons of matches and safeties. Given your GPA, tests, unimpressive ECs, and attitude, I wouldn’t even consider the schools you listed a reach- more like an unlikely. Here are some ideas.

Reaches- Boston College, Wake Forest, Lehigh, Tulane, Rochester, GWU

Matches- Case Western, Miami, Penn State, Syracuse, Boston University, Fordham, Northeastern, Kalamazoo

Safeties- Drexel, UDenver, UTulsa, UDayton, UPacific, Wabash, Ohio Wesleyan, Wofford, UPortland, Earlham, Drew

wait a wait a wait a wait a wait a minute!! Drexel is a “safety,” when schools like Penn State and Kalamazoo are matches? Drexel is an outstanding university, and i dont appreiciate your disrespect and lack of knowledge about its quality of education. my dad (who has a genius IQ and was accepted to MIT and standford for grad school) went there. get with the program!!! lol. also, how are my ec’s unimpressive??? my “my attitude?” *** are u talking abt?

on the other hand, thank u Ilyana for your supportive, helpful advice.

oh lol the little stars are blocking out the acronym i said lol. what i said was w.t.f. hehe ;)

Wow. That post just proves the exact attitude problem I was talking about. I was a little bit less harsh about what qualifies as a safety when I started, so it is possible that Drexel could be a match. However, calling it a safety does not undermine the school in any way. Drexel is a great school. It’s 75th percentile ACT range is a 27, which is your ACT, meaning your score is about 75% of the students at Drexel, making your chance there high. Colgate and GWU are my safeties right now, but that does not make them bad schools at all. If all safeties were bad schools, nobody would have safeties they are happy with.

Your ECs are nothing special. Anyone can join clubs or be president. To have your ECs help you, you need to do something unique, show some kind of passion.

And finally, your attitude is indeed awful. You called Cornell and Dartmouth “easy ones,” even though you have practically no chance of getting into either one. Make sure this doesn’t come through in your essays. However, don’t expect to end up at top colleges. You say I do not know about this process but from what it seems I understand it much better than you. College admissions are extremely competitive, especially any top 100 schools. Ivies are reaches for even the most qualified candidates, and I just want you to know that your chances there are practically 0 and I wanted to provide you with a nice list of schools that you actually have a shot at.

“Colgate and GWU are my safeties right now, but that does not make them bad schools at all.”

did they call u up and tell u “hey, we’re ur safeties!!!”??? I DON’T THINK SO. it’s YOUR attitude thats arrogant, trying to outshine me. YOU have no chance! i am going to princeton weather u like it or not! ILL SHOW YOU!

Good luck with that, but you should probably learn to spell if you want to even stand the slimmest chance.

i can spell! srsly test me. i competed in school-wide spelling bees in 7th grade ok.

Let’s put it this way. You have no chance for the Ivies. Don’t even bother. Now, can we stop feeding the ■■■■■?

Sorry to inform you, but without a hook you are pretty much out of luck when it comes to the Ivys. There are thousands of Valedictorians with 2100+ SATs that get rejected from the Ivys. Think rationally why would an adcom choose you over them?

Is it really that hard to see that this is a ■■■■■? Honestly, if this were real, then it simply astounds me how arrogant and ignorant some people can be…

no you guys im smart! ive only taken the act once gimme a brake!

^^ I love how you put Cornell/Dartmouth as easy ones. They are most definitely not easy. 82% of applicants to Cornell and 91% of applicants to Dartmouth are rejected. They are not easy. An easy university is one that you know you will absolutely get in. My easy was UCSB because I had guaranteed admission
