PRINCETON chances!

do u think i can get into princeton if i have a 3.61 gpa (honors classes though lol), 27 act (havent taken sat)??? im class president, a jv cheerleader, and a member of several other clubs (gsa, sadd, sos, interact) and choir/glee club?

also i was hoping i could get recruited for cheerleading!!! )

any opinions?

(i’m also considereing harvard, yale, standford, and some easy ones like cornell/dartmouth.)

Ah, an aspiring Princetonian. Well, you may want to get that ACT score up since you are still well below the middle 50 percentile. What are your cheerleading credentials? Have you had other offers from D1 schools?

And keep in mind that Cornell and Dartmouth are not “easy.” They are looking to build a class and you have to be the right kind of person, no matter the grades. I was accepted to Princeton, Columbia, and MIT but not to Dartmouth (didn’t apply to Cornell).

What’s your class rank? Unfortunately, a 3.61 UW GPA is really low for HYPS and the rest of the ivies. Just about everyone who gets accepted has a 3.8+ GPA when it comes to HYPS, unless there is something spectacular that makes them extremely unique. Actually, a ton of applicants have a 4.0 UW GPA, and ofc they take a lot of AP classes. You certainly need to be in the top 10%, preferably in the top 5%.

To have a competitive chance, you should have a 34+ ACT or 2250+ SAT, although a 33/2200 is good enough. Also, don’t forget about your SAT II/Subject Tests! Many colleges require 2, and the rest ‘prefer’ 2. So make sure to take atleast 2 subject tests and score preferably 750+, although 700+ is fine as well.

The most important part are the ECs, and simply being a member of a lot of clubs won’t help you out that much. Unless you are deeply involved or have a leadership position, clubs won’t be a huge factor in the admission process. It seems like you should try and emphasize your cheerleading as your main EC. Have you won any major competitions or received any awards from it?

Btw nice job on being class president Ms Popular! lol no but really, it goes in your favor for the admission officers to see that you are a well rounded and sociable person. It’s extremely important that you emphasize your personality in your essays, which can be the key in being admitted. Lots of people with mediocre stats have been accepted to top schools due to fantastic essays. And don’t forget to scout out 2 excellent letters of recommendation from your teachers.

Make sure to put a few match/safety schools on your list, since ivies and other top schools are always a risk. Don’t stress too much about it, and good luck!

It says you were a JV cheerleader. Did you have any varsity experience? The Ivy League adheres to D1 guidelines when recruiting.

my main issue is presstige. i really dont think i will apply to “safeties” because i am confident ill at least get accepted to the ivy’s. i have a 3.61 weighted gpa, and my act score is a 27, plus im super involved (im class president). so im obviously applying to princeton, then probably harvard and yale and stanford too.

well i live kinda in the middle of nowhere lol so i just read stories to my grandma 2 days a week lol

i know im rly involved w/ school and stuff im in a ton of clubs and im class president, but i know even ppl like me who are veruy active in school can sometimes get rejected. so can u pls enlighten me and let me know what u think my odds are?? thx!

and about cheer, i rlly think if i could like meet the adcoms if thats possible, or even for my interviewer, and show off my cheer abilities they’d see i dont deserve to be on just JV. and really i should’ve been captain but the coach hates me and my fam for no reason well technically her bf cheated on her w/ me but i digress.

A 3.61 Weighted GPA? Eh in that case you really may want to rethink what schools you apply to. It doesn’t sound like you are even close to the top 10% of your class, but please mention if you are. Only a very small percentage of those accepted aren’t in the top 10% and that is because they have some sort of AMAZING talent or accomplishment. An ACT of 27 is NOT a good score, so you’ll need to retake that for sure.

If you want complete honesty, even if you do all the things I suggested in my previous post, I am 100% sure you will be rejected from HYPS. The rest of the ivies are an extremely high reach, but there may be a chance if you can somehow increase those test scores, embellish those ECs, and write FANTASTIC essays. Btw, interviews don’t make much a difference for increasing your chances, but you can always give it a shot.

really now? well if you’re confident you’ll be accepted to an Ivy, then the whole point of this chance thread is moot and we have all wasted our time here.

You have no chance in getting accepted to Princeton or any Ivy league school with a 3.61 GPA with NO AP classes and just honors and a 27 ACT. You may live in a rural area, but that will NOT make up for your weak academics.

P.S Interviews count for little in admissions

P.S.S. Cornell is probably easier to get into than HYP but Dartmouth is probably the same level of competition and selectivity.

duuuuuuudeee… I am about to lose faith in humanity;;

I mean, seriously?? I guess you might stand some chance if you’re Native American, extremely low income and first generation college student. However, judging from what you wrote, you don’t fit in that criteria.

Gal, I will be totally honest here. I am also a rising senior like you are. And I go to a public school that is top 100 nationwide but heck, its public and only the top 5 counts. I have a 3.78 GPA thanks to me screwing up my Sophomore 1st semester -with me taking 3 APs including AP Calc BC totally unprepared… And I have 2340 SAT with currently 5 APs all 5s -planning on taking 5 senior year. Also took 3 SAT IIs so far, with Bio 790, Math II 800, US history 760 -bit of a flaw b/c I planned on double major with History being one… I am a founder and president of a Non-profit organization, I lead the school debate team, I am in Varsity tennis, JV Tracks & Fields, and I participate in Mock Trial and Model UN.

Yet, this isn’t a perfect resume; in fact, a very weak one. I consider my chance of getting into the HYP low to none, and all I rely on is my essay portion, where I have the opportunity to distinguish myself as an individual. Not like I want Ivies though; I prefer Liberal Arts and aspire to get into Williams, Amherst or Middlebury. But again, all of these great schools have high bars and you need to be special and proven to get themselves interested in you.

I am sorry, but I must say you have zero chance of getting into the Ivies. And no offense, but the day you get into one with that resume will equal doom on earth -which, thanks god, hasn’t arrived yet.

I believe that OP was making fun of everyone.

Anyway, in case you are seriously, you have NO chance to be accepted by any of the school on your list.

@Dactylic - There’s no way this is a serious thread. You just wasted four whole paragraphs for nothing.

Yesssss, OP is trolling so hard. Just believable enough too, but cocky enough to get people to respond.

10/10 OP

Mehh, 6/10.

4/10 OP, try again.

lololol

8/10 for getting all these people to respond

kudos to you Princeton Princess

And now I feel like an idiot;

Check out posts by the almost identical princetonprncess from last year…

Princess, definitely to your cheers during your interview!
