senior year: 4.0(W)
I did not realize my academic potential until late, obviously, but am now in senior year taking AP bio, Ap Environmental science and Ap computer science and doing well in all, but am not sure how I fare with kids who have excelled every year of high school and I have heard that a strong upward trend shows good progression.
ACT:29
Planning on taking 2 SAT subject-Bio/Lit
EC: Student council President(aka school president-do announcements to 300+ people everyday), Soccer team captain(almost won states), Football Captain(won states) and have emailed back and forth with Princeton’s head coach, Mock trail varsity team, Trap and skeet, Tennis, Interact club, Yoga club president, held summer job for years
-Recs very strong(talk about my progression from troublemaker to school president)
Common App essay was a poem in iambic pentameter about crohn’s disease and having to drop out of school
Wrote Princeton essay about being LGBT(bisexual) and another about how I accomplished my dream of being student council president
-white
-boarding school known for academic rigor
-applied early action restrictive and have interview next week
I have confidence in everything but my academics. I am not sure if Princeton will look at my Gpa and instantly throw away my application or if they will dig deeper.
Still no
To even have a chance you’d need to get that ACT to 33+
You remind me of my sister with the significant upward trend in GPA. Unfortunately, your overall low-ish GPA and relatively low ACT will probably not get you into Princeton.
Your transformation from mediocre to strong student and class president is very admirable, but Princeton could probably fill ten classes with straight-A students and class presidents. Why would they pick someone who did not perform well their first few years of high school? They must have a compelling reason to do so. Do you think there is one present in your application?
At this point, I’d say Princeton is a very high reach. But good for you for turning yourself around and giving it a shot. Best of luck!
What other schools are you applying to? You’ll definitely want to have a mix of safety, match, and reach schools.
You won’t get in. You are an immediate reject for Princeton. There is literally nothing you can do. Sorry, but let me save you the pain later on when you squander emotional energy thinking about it, along with $65.
Some good schools for you to consider with your stats would be institutions with about 40-60% acceptance rates (as matches and safeties). Good luck to you.
Your story sounds compelling and essays sound interesting. If you had some sort of hook (URM, legacy), I would encourage you to apply, but there are simply too many white kids from prep schools with near-perfect scores AND buttloads of extracurricular activities for you to have a shot worth $65.
However, I don’t quite agree with the above poster. Depending on your application’s ability to convey your story, I can see several selective schools (10-25% acceptance rate) that would probably accept you. Definitely apply to colleges outside that range though as well.
Best of luck in the college process!
I agree with @gmanhax that you have the potential to be admitted to some schools in the 20-30% acceptance rate range with those scores, maybe even some 15%s, but certainly not Princeton. I’d say your odds of admission to Pton are about 0.01%.
