Princeton Class of 2020 Waitlist

i didn’t see a thread yet so i thought we’d continue the tradition and at least encourage one another and share info. it’s gonna be a loooong ride.

What is the typical time frame for submitting an update letter/ letter of continued interest?

@wonderingwhatnot it doesn’t sound like there isn’t really a “right” time to do it - past threads have shown people sending them right away after their results have been posted and others in May, so perhaps now - mid-May? I haven’t received the mailing yet so I’m thinking about at least waiting for that.

If I don’t have any important update, do I still need to send them an appeal letter?

Where are you guys sending your letters to? I tried to find my counselor online but I couldn’t find anyone.

When are we expected to hear from the waitlist?

@greysanatomy3113 According to last year’s thread, around mid-may it looks like?

@PartyNextDoor it doesn’t look like princeton has regional counselors up online - prob the general admissions email address: uaoffice@princeton.edu

Hi folks! Mom of accepted-off-the-waitlist-Class of '18 here! Remember, mid-May is at the early end of when you might hear, but they keep looking at the waitlist for a long time after–my daughter’s year I think it went on 'til the end of June. And we have a friend from the class of '01 who got in at the end of July! You just never know. Good luck to all of you! And remember–this is your opportunity to give your other choices a fair shot–one of them might be fabulous!

I’ve heard that when compared to its peers, Princeton accepts students off of the waitlist more based on strength of application and the niche they fill, and less based on the student’s specification that they will certainly attend if admitted. Can anyone comment on this? How should one approach writing a letter to the admissions committee if he/she is not 100% certain they will attend if given the chance?

@wonderingwhatnot Hmm not sure.

Did you guys just indicate through your portal that you wish to be remained for further consideration on the waitlist, or did you do that AND physically mail back that little notecard they sent us?

@PartyNextDoor Did both- figured it couldn’t hurt!

@wondertime thsnn you for the encouragement! May I ask what school your daughter ended up turning down for Princeton?

Hi guys! International waitlist applicant here. Obviously didn’t get the physical mail yet. The online notification says there is a “Statement to Wait Listed Candidates”. Could anyone please share the contents of this statement (perhaps a picture of it) if they have received this? Thanks!

@S121212 Here is the statement. Its for the class of 2014 but the letter is exactly the same.

just found out that three admits from my region (int’l) are accepting other offers and i’m the only one who’s accepting a place in the waitlist…obviously i didn’t talk to everyone, but it gives me hope somewhat!

Where will you commit in the mean time, @jpa0115 ?

@wonderingwhatnot i really don’t know yet…i got waitlisted at 6 of the 8 places I applied for…pretty discouraging.

Not sure if I really have a chance, but Princeton is definitely the dream. If not, I have a spot at Columbia. What can I do besides write a letter of intent?

My counselor said that a LOCI won’t change anything. Thoughts?

@emsschulz Maybe what your counselor means is that its very difficult to get off the waitlist in general. I have heard, however, that in order to both protect (keep high) their yield statistic and shorten the waitlist admissions process, admissions committes are inclined to admit students who clarify Princeton (or School X) is their top choice, and will attend if admitted. I have seen in past threads, though, that not all waitlist admits sent in LOCIs.
