Princeton Class of 2020 Waitlist

What did you guys write in your letters of continued interest? @onlynongenius @jpa0115

sorry for the late response @wonderingwhatnot
basically some recent updates and why it has to be princeton @-)

No worries! @jpa0115 This thread isn’t very active, which is good! Hopefully it means we are all focused on our real lives and are being realistic about our prospects. I wrote a similar letter, now just need to figure out who to address it to.

@wonderingwhatnot I ended up sending it to the general admissions email since Princeton doesn’t seem to have regional reps like other schools.

It’s been a tough couple of weeks since all the results came out…i’ll just put it at that…
i think once the yield stats are out i’ll start letting things go…

Wondering what kind of responses people got after sending in their LOCIs?

@jpa0115 Got a response the next day from (presumably?) an admissions officer which read: “Thanks for the email. Your updates have been added to your file.” You?

@wonderingwhatnot same!! i guess since they don’t have regional counselors they’re no point in trying to establish a personal connection :-?

Some discouraging stats from the Princeton Alumni Weekly (https://paw.princeton.edu/article/short-52)

So, for a target of class size of 1,308, Princeton offered admission to 1,894. So basically ~600 students have to turn down Princeton (cross admits with Stabford, MIT, Harvard and Yale mostly) to open up wait list slots.

According to The College Board “applying” sub-tab of the Princeton dataset (https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-university-search/princeton-university), here are last year’s stats:

Wait list Statistics
Offered place on wait list 1,207
Number accepting place 818
Accepted from list 39

This info is not meant to be cruel, but just to help students move on towards a more probable future…

not looking too good given that last year’s yield was like 68.6% (including deferrals)…

sent them a LOCI + an update. Will sending them another update (I forgot to send deets for a project the last time) hurt my chances?

If their yield rate holds this year, that would leave less than ten spots not filled. And with 1200+ on the WL, that would make the acceptance rate off of the WL at about 0.83%

Highly recommend everyone tries to get excited about their new schools because as awesome as Princeton would have been, you don’t want to put too much hope in this!

it appears that the silence on this thread and I think most other WL threads on CC compared to previous years (apart from the Chicago one which is a whole other story) indicates that most folks agree with you @emsschulz :-S

i just hope that they close the WL sooner than later…

@anotherdude I don’t think sending them another update could hurt. In threads from previous waitlist cycles, I saw multiple posters (some of whom were admitted) recounting their 3-4 emails to the Admissions office.

i don’t know what went wrong with my apps, but i ended up staying on five WLs…at this point i’m thinking it doesn’t even matter where, i’m just hoping to hear back from one school

If they go off the waitlist, so u guys think they will start next week or the week after?

I think they’ll start next week, at least I’m hoping that they do. The later they do, the more difficult it will become for me to atttend (if at all I do get in :stuck_out_tongue: )

Some colleges have begun their first wave of waitlist offers. Has anyone heard from Princeton by any chance

Having read past threads, I think that Princeton will start releasing a little later (around May 21st), especially since they haven’t even released the yield report yet.

Should we send them the final report?

@wasd680 i’m assuming no until they actually ask for it?
