Just got accepted into Princeton!
After college, she primarily wants to work in film or television… either in development, production or distribution. While I have urged her to focus on writing or the creative side of content development, as I believe that she is gifted as a writer, she is convinced instead that she is best suited to production roles themselves. A great deal of her background is centered around that aspect of theatrical productions (stage management, production design, directing). She has also worked as a production assistant for a few film and television productions.
Thanks for the links as well. We will look into the info provided there.
@WWWard as a parent of a fellow artist-scholar, I empathize and congratulate. For these kids it’s not just about the destination (she’ll get employed in the film industry regardless of institution), but about the artistic journey and the creative community. So best school is really best fit school. When we gave our older one this “permission”, we liberated him from feeling like not pursuing the ivies (to which he was admitted) was going to be a mistake and allowed him to create and network within his passion exactly when he was ready to. Good luck to you!
Thanks, @curious2knowit I believe that Princeton will be giving her about a week to decide… so I am letting it all simmer a bit, trying to give her space to think about her options. It is a tough choice… but thankfully it is also between two great potential paths.
For those who got in, is the financial aid package accessed by logging into the regular admissions portal?
As an update… my daughter has decided to decline the offer of admission from Princeton and still attend USC. She chose #1 in Film over #1 overall…
Congrats to your D!!
Thanks, @GnocchiB
Sounds like a very mature decision. Congrats and if it wasn’t 2700 miles away my D would be joining yours (but not in film).
Thanks, @Dolemite
Well, we live in FL… so USC is over 2500 miles away for us as well. But I already have an older daughter there at USC. She will be a senior, and the two will be sharing an apartment for the next school year. In reality, non-stop flights to L.A. from Tampa are usually accomplished in 4.5 to 5 hours, roughly the time it would take to drive to UMiami or FSU from here. We have actually not found the distance to be an issue at all. Surprisingly, there seem to be kids from FL there in attendance. More than we originally expected. My daughter often even flies overnight while sleeping.
And… I am sure that the fact that her older sister is there already at USC and loves it was a contributing factor in my younger daughter’s decision to stick with USC… even over Princeton. I would of course have been super proud to have a daughter attending Princeton, but for what she wants… USC is likely the better fit.
So I guess no international applicants made it of the waitlist?
any more phone calls today?
If I got off the waitlist for Brown and only have until June 2nd to decide, should I let the Princeton Admissions Office know?
i’m sure it couldn’t hurt if that’s where you’re planning to go
@Y2JRedskins - congrats on getting into Brown - great achievement. I think it would be good for you to call the admissions office to get a handle on when they are finishing and closing out the process at Princeton - it may help tip any last spots if they know you’ve made it into Brown also. I have to think there is likely only 2-3 slots remaining given 2 waves of calls are over (and that only because some may not have accepted the wait list offer), so think its coming to an end - maybe final calls this week and next?
any calls this week?
Is the waitlist still active?
Feels like it is done - maybe 1-2 last calls at most. Anyone call the office to ask?
ACCEPTED!! Just Received a Call!!!
@drakefaded12 congrats!!! Good luck deciding!!
